Stade Demba Diop
Stade Demba Diop is a multi-use stadium in greater Dakar, Senegal. It is situated on ''Boulevard Président Habib Bourguiba'' in Sicap-Liberté, an urban arrondissement of Dakar. Several football clubs use this stadium for their home games. History Built in 1963, the stadium was later named after Demba Diop, former mayor of M'bour and Minister of Youth and Sport under President Léopold Sédar Senghor. Diop was assassinated on 3 February 1967. In 2017, eight people died after a wall at the Stade Demba Diop collapsed during a match between Stade de Mbour and US Ouakam. Facilities The stadium holds 30,000 people and its current surface is synthetic turf. Events The stadium is currently used mostly for football matches and serves as a home ground of ASC Diaraf, AS Douanes, US Ouakam and ASC Xam Xam. Pape Demba Armand Tourézé (born 31 December 1984) is a Senegalese former professional footballer who played as a striker. He dropped the 'zé' part of his surname when he was 20, re-registering his name with FIFA as Demba Armand Touré. Club career Touré was born in Dakar, Senegal. He played at Olympique Lyonnais for the 2002–03 and 2003–04 seasons, and was then loaned to Grasshopper Club Zürich for 2004–05 and 2005–ß6. Demba Ba (born 25 May 1985) is a former professional footballer. He serves as the chairman of National Independent Soccer Association side ASC San Diego. He made his first-team debut with French team Rouen in 2005 before moving to Mouscron and then 1899 Hoffenheim in Germany in 2007. In 2011, he moved to Premier League side West Ham United. He played only 12 games for West Ham and despite being their league top goal scorer in the 2010–11 season, they were relegated to the Championship and Ba moved to Newcastle United. In January 2013, he completed a move to Chelsea for an undisclosed fee, before joining Beşiktaş for €6 million 18 months later. After one season in Turkey, he moved to Shanghai Shenhua of the Chinese Super League. Demba Diop (10 May 1927 – 3 February 1967) was a Senegalese politician. He served as Minister of Youth and Sport under President Léopold Sédar Senghor and was Mayor of Mbour from 1966 to 1967. Life Born in Boghé (now in Mauritania) in 1927, Diop trained as a school teacher. He was assigned first to a school in Sédhiou Department in 1947, interrupted by his French Army service. Demba Savage (born 17 June 1988) is a Gambian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Finnish club TPS. A right winger, who can also operate on the left wing or as a striker, he is mostly known for his blazing speed and dribbling skills.
