Delyan Point
Delyan Point ( bg, нос Делян, ‘Nos Delyan’ \'nos de-'lyan\) is a point on the northwest coast of Smith Island, South Shetland Islands forming the northeast side of the entrance to Vedena Cove. Situated 4 km west-southwest of Cape Smith, 10.66 km northeast of Markeli Point, 8.9 km east-northeast of Gregory Point, and 1.4 km northwest of Matochina Peak. Bulgarian early mapping in 2009. This island was known to both American and British sealers as early as 1820, and the name Smith has been well established in international usage for over 100 years, although in Russian literature it is often referred to as Borodino Island, sometimes marked as Borodino (Smith) Island. South Shetland Islands
The South Shetland Islands are a group of Antarctic islands with a total area of . They lie about north of the Antarctic Peninsula, and between southwest of the nearest point of the South Orkney Islands. By the Antarctic Treaty of 1959, the islands' sovereignty is neither recognized nor disputed by the signatories and they are free for use by any signatory for non-military purposes. The islands have been claimed by the United Kingdom since 1908 and as part of the British Antarctic Territory since 1962. They are also claimed by the governments of Chile (since 1940, as part of the Antártica Chilena province) and Argentina (since 1943, as part of Argentine Antarctica, Tierra del Fuego Province). Several countries maintain research stations on the islands. Most of them are situated on King George Island, benefitting from the airfield of the Chilean base Eduardo Frei. Vedena Cove ( bg, залив Ведена, zaliv Vedena, ) is the 1.73 km wide cove indenting for 560 m the northwest coast of Smith Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica west of Delyan Point. Cape Smith is a cape forming the north end of Smith Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The discovery of the South Shetland Islands was first reported in 1819 by Captain William Smith, for whom the cape is named. Markeli Point ( bg, нос Маркели, ‘Nos Markeli’ \'nos mar-'ke-li\) is a point on the northwest coast of Smith Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica, projecting 1.2 km west-southwestwards into Drake Passage. Peter Delyan
Petar II Delyan (reigned 1040–1041) ( bg, Петър II Делян, Greek: Πέτρος Δελεάνος) was the leader of an uprising against Byzantine rule in the Theme of Bulgaria during the summer of 1040. He was proclaimed Tsar of Bulgaria, as Samuel's grandson in Belgrade, then in the theme of Bulgaria. His original name may have been simply ''Delyan'', in which case he assumed the name Petar II upon his accession, commemorating the sainted Emperor Petar I (Petăr I), who had died in 970. The year of his birth is uncertain, but probably not long after 1000, and before 1014. He probably died in 1041. Origin His origin is not clear. He claimed that he was son of Emperor Gavril Radomir and grandson of Samuel of Bulgaria, but he could also be a local who became leader of the uprising and claimed to be Samuel's grandson to justify his proclamation as Tsar of Bulgaria.
