Volusia County (, ) is located in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Florida, stretching between the St. Johns River and the Atlantic Ocean. As of the 2020 census, the county was home to 553,543 people, an increase of 11.9% from the 2010 census. It was founded on December 29, 1854, from part of Orange County, and was named for the community of Volusia, located in northwestern Volusia County. Its first county seat was Enterprise. Since 1887, its county seat has been DeLand. Mackle Brothers
The Mackle brothers - Elliott, Robert and Frank Jr. - were a group of three brothers who were real estate developers. They would popularize selling land in planned communities through installment plans in Florida creating several communities in the process. Elliott J. Mackle would be born in 1908 and died in 1978. Frank E. Mackle Jr. would be born in Atlanta in 1916 and graduated with a civil engineering degree from Vanderbilt University in 1938. Frank would die at the age of 77 in Key Biscayne on July 29, 1993. The Mackle Company would be founded in 1908 in Jacksonville by Frank E. Mackle Sr. who ran the company there before going to Miami in 1937. When he died, it would be taken over by Elliott, Robert and Frank. Area codes 407 and 689 are telephone area codes in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the area of and around the city of Orlando in the U.S. state of Florida. The numbering plan area (NPA) includes the counties Orange, Osceola, and Seminole, as well as small portions of Volusia and Lake counties. Area code 321 is the area code serving Brevard County, Florida, Space Coast Region and Seminole County, Florida. The area code has been in use since November 1, 1999; it was assigned to Florida (instead of suburban Chicago) after a successful petition led by local resident Robert Osband to commemorate the Space Coast's impact on Brevard County. The code refers to the countdown sequence which has launched many spacecraft from Cape Canaveral.
