Delec Locomotive Depot
Delec Locomotive Depot was an Australian locomotive depot purpose built for the servicing of diesel and electric locomotives by the New South Wales Government Railways opening in 1958. Its name is a portmanteau of the locomotive types it serviced. It was built on the eastern side of the main marshalling yards at Enfield as the principal Sydney depot to maintain new diesel and electric locomotives that began to enter service in New South Wales in the early 1950s. Delec station was built on the Flemington to Campsie Goods Line and served by workers trains. With the arrival of the 82 and 90 locomotives in 1994 and their maintenance outsourced to Clyde Engineering coupled with National Rail making its own servicing arrangements and the demise of electric locomotives, Delec's work began to contract. New South Wales Government Railways
The New South Wales Government Railways (NSWGR) was the agency of the Government of New South Wales that administered rail transport in New South Wales, Australia, between 1855 and 1932. Management The agency was managed by a range of different commission structures between 1857 and 1932, which reported to either the Minister for Public Works or the Minister for Transport. The inaugural Chief Commissioner was Ben Martindale and, following the enactment of the he became Commissioner of Railways. Enfield is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Delec Platform Railway Station
Delec platform is a unused railway employee only platform located on the eastern side of Enfield Yard, on the Campsie-Flemington Goods Line in Sydney, Australia. Prior to Enfield Yard being remodelled in 1996, Delec was on the Up Main Line. Both the New Up and Down main lines now run on the western side of Enfield Yard. The Station and Up Main closed in 1996 with the line now a shunting neck for Weston Flour Mill. New South Wales 82 Class Locomotive
The 82 class are a class of diesel locomotives built by Clyde Engineering, Braemar for FreightCorp in 1994–1995. History In 1992, a fleet of 55 EMD JT42C locomotives was ordered from Clyde Engineering, which was later increased to 58. The design was based on the prototype locomotive GML10 built by Clyde Engineering, Kelso in 1990. They have two cabs, built in a hood style. They were originally to be built at Kelso, but a lack of capacity saw Clyde Engineering lease Australian National Industries' Braemar plant. Early artists' impressions showed them numbered as the 94 class. The first two were originally numbered 9401 and 9402 but renumbered 8201 and 8202 before leaving the factory. New South Wales 90 Class Locomotive
The 90 class are a class of heavy haul diesel-electric locomotives built by Electro-Motive Division, Canada for FreightCorp and EDi Rail, Cardiff for Pacific National for use on high tonnage Hunter Valley coal workings. History Ordered in July 1992 under the Clyde ReadyPower contract along with the 82 class, the first batch of 31 locomotives were built by Electro-Motive Division in London, Ontario, Canada in 1994. Clyde Engineering
Clyde Engineering was an Australian manufacturer of locomotives, rolling stock, and other industrial products. It was founded in September 1898 by a syndicate of Sydney businessmen buying the Granville factory of timber merchants Hudson Brothers. The company won contracts for railway rolling stock, a sewerage system, trams and agricultural machinery. In 1907 it won its first contract for steam locomotives for the New South Wales Government Railways. By 1923 it had 2,200 employees. After contracting during the depression it became a major supplier of munitions during World War II.
