Delaware Valley Classical School
Delaware Valley Classical School is a private, K-12 classical Christian school located in New Castle, Delaware. For the 2023–24 academic year, enrollment was approximately 190 students, with approximately 30 faculty and staff. History The school was founded as Christ Classical Christian School in 1994 by a group of homeschooling parents from Elkton, Maryland, taking inspiration from Douglas Wilson's book, ''Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning''. In its first year, 23 students were enrolled. It relocated to Newark in 1995, to Hockessin in 1997, adopting the name Tall Oaks Classical School. In 2001, Donald Post became the school's second headmaster, and in 2006 moved to the Faith City Family Church building in Christiana. Classical Christian Education
Classical Christian education is an approach to learning rooted in the long story of Christian engagement with the classical tradition as exemplified first by figures such as the Cappadocian Fathers, Augustine and Jerome as well as the fullness of Christian monastic traditions. It's current revival in American K-12 schools started with three schools founded in 1980 to 1981: Cair Paravel-Latin School (Topeka, Kansas), Trinity School at Greenlawn (South Bend, Indiana), and Logos School (Moscow, Idaho). Various classical Christian schools emphasize and articulate different things in their approaches, but most include biblical teachings and incorporate a teaching model from the classical education movement known as the ''Trivium'', consisting of three parts: grammar, logic, and rhetoric. Red Lion Christian Academy
Red Lion Christian Academy (RLCA) is a private Christian Preschool– 12 school in Bear, Delaware, named for its location within the Red Lion Hundred. History A committee led by Dr. Charles F. Betters founded the school in 1980 as a Preschool–4th grade learning center. In 1997 the school started the process of becoming a full PreK-12 school. Classic Learning Test
The Classic Learning Test (or CLT) is a standardized test developed by Classic Learning Initiatives, which was founded in 2015 by Jeremy Tate and is based in Annapolis, Maryland. The test was designed as an alternative to other standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT. It is conducted online, taking approximately two hours to complete, and normally issues same-day test scores; scores are calculated out of 120. Two preparatory exams are also offered: the CLT10, designed for high school freshmen and sophomores, and the CLT8, for seventh and eighth grade students. CLT10 scores have been indexed to PSAT scores, though the highest range of CLT10 scores exceeds the equivalent of a 1600 on the PSAT. Science Olympiad
Science Olympiad is an American team competition in which students compete in 23 events pertaining to various fields of science, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Over 7,800 middle school and high school teams from 50 U.S. states compete each year. U.S. territories do not compete; however, since 2012 high school teams from Japan have competed at the national tournament as unranked guests. There are multiple levels of competition: invitational, regional, state, and national. Invitational tournaments, run by high schools and universities, are unofficial tournaments and serve as practice for regional and state competitions.
