Delaware State Hornets
The Delaware State Hornets are the sixteen sports teams representing Delaware State University in Dover, Delaware in intercollegiate athletics, including men and women's basketball, cross country, tennis, and track and field; women's-only bowling, softball, and volleyball; and men's-only baseball. The Hornets complete in NCAA Division I; they have been members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference since 1970. While most teams play in the MEAC, the women's soccer team competes as an independent, the women's equestrian team plays in the ECAC/National Collegiate Equestrian Association, the baseball and women's golf teams compete in the Northeast Conference, and the women's lacrosse team competes in the ASUN Conference. Delaware State University
Delaware State University (DSU or Del State) is a public historically black land-grant research university in Dover, Delaware. DSU also has two satellite campuses: one in Wilmington and one in Georgetown. The university encompasses four colleges and a diverse population of undergraduate and advanced-degree students. The Delaware State Hornets baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate athletic team of the Delaware State University in Dover, Delaware, United States. The team competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I and is a member of the Northeast Conference (NEC). College lacrosse is played by student-athletes at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. In both countries, men's field lacrosse and women's lacrosse are played at both the varsity and club levels. Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. Rod Milstead
Roderick Leon Milstead, Jr (born November 10, 1969) is the former head football coach at Delaware State University. He is a former American football guard in the National Football League for the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins. He played college football at Delaware State University. Early years Milstead attended Lackey High School, where he was a two-time All-State offensive lineman and helped lead his team to a Class B state championship in 1986. He participated in the Big 33 Football Classic game between the Maryland and Pennsylvania All-stars. He also played Basketball and was valuable member of the Track & Field team that won the 1987 Class B State Championship. Delaware State Hornets Football
The Delaware State Hornets football team represents Delaware State University (DSU) at the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision level as a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). They play at the 7,193-seat Alumni Stadium located in Dover, Delaware. The facility opened in 1957 as a multi-purpose venue, for football and track and field. History On November 9, 1980, Delaware State took on quarterback Neil Lomax and the Portland State Vikings and were defeated 105–0 in the biggest loss in Division I-AA Football history. This marked a low point for the team and with the help of new coach Joe Purzycki, the Hornets rebuilt their program. Ten-pin bowling is a type of bowling in which a bowler rolls a bowling ball down a wood or synthetic lane toward ten pins positioned evenly in four rows in an equilateral triangle. The objective is to knock down all ten pins on the first roll of the ball (a strike), or failing that, on the second roll (a spare). Stan Waterman (basketball)
Stan Waterman (born May 1966) is an American college basketball coach who is the current head coach of the Delaware State Hornets men's basketball team. Early life and education Waterman grew up in Wilmington, Delaware and attended Howard Career Center High School. Playing point guard, he was named Second Team All-State as a senior and earned an invitation to the Delaware High School All-Star Basketball Game. Waterman led the team to the state championship game in 1981 and the state semifinals in 1983. He received a scholarship to Delaware. Waterman sat out the 1985-86 season to focus on his studies.
