Delany (surname)
Delaney is an Irish surname derived from the Gaelic ''Ó Dubhshláine'', ''Dubh'' meaning black and ''Sláine'' for the River Sláine (Slaney). DeLaney is also of Norman origin. There is a branch of Dulaneys in the United States who trace back to a Thomas Delany. Thomas's son, Daniel, claimed to have been descended from Dr. Gideon Delaune, a Huguenot physician and theologian and founder of the Apothecaries' Hall. Hence, there are multiple discussions among genealogical circles as to the origin of Delaney since it can be anglicised Gaelic or anglicised French. Delany (Upper Lusatia)
Delany ( Sorbian for "lowland") is the usual name for the low-lying, larger part of the former estate of St. Marienstern Abbey in Panschwitz-Kuckau in German Lusatia. The region is in the centre of Bautzen district along the River Klosterwasser in Upper Lusatia. It lies between the villages of Räckelwitz (''Worklecy'') to the south and Wittichenau (''Kulow'') to the north and is part of the heart of the present-day Sorbian language region. Delany College
Delany College is an independent Roman Catholic comprehensive co-educational secondary day school, located in Granville, a western suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia; in the tradition of the Patrician Brothers. Founded in 1942 as the Patrician Brothers' High School, the College is administratively overseen by the Catholic Education Office of the Diocese of Parramatta. Delany College has enrolment of approximately 550 students from Year 7 to Year 12. Students are drawn from a number of local catholic schools including Holy Trinity Primary, Granville; Holy Family Primary, Granville East; St Patrick's Primary, Guildford and St Margaret Mary's Primary, Merrylands.
