Delacroix ( /ˈdə.lə.krɔɪ/, /ˈdə.lə.krɒ/; Spanish: ''La Isla'' a ˈih.la French: ''L'île de la Croix'') is an Isleño fishing community and census-designated place (CDP) located in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 48. The community is also popularly known as Delacroix Island. The community was established in 1783 with the settlement of Canary Islanders along Bayou Terre-aux-Boeufs. Etymology and usage The community was originally established by Canary Islander colonists during the late 18th century. The area was named La Isla (The Island) and continues to be known as such by many Isleños, particularly those who know Spanish as a first language. On July 3, 1894, the community was renamed to L'île de la Croix after its landowner the Countess Pauline Stéphanie de Livaudais du Suan de la Croix. Charles-François Delacroix
Charles-François Delacroix (or Lacroix; 15 April 1741 – 26 October 1805) was a French statesman who became Minister of Foreign Affairs under the Directory. The painter Eugène Delacroix was his fourth son, although doubts have been cast on his paternity. Family Charles-François Delacroix was born in Givry-en-Argonne on 15 April 1741. He married Victoire Oëbène, daughter of the cabinet-maker Jean-François Oeben. Victoire's uncle Henri-François Riesener was a distinguished painter. They had four children. Charles-Henri Delacroix (9 January 1779 – 30 December 1845) became a soldier, and rose to the rank of General in the Napoleonic army. Henriette was born in 1780. She married the diplomat Raymond de Verninac Saint-Maur (1762–1822). Henri was born six year later. He was killed at the Battle of Friedland on 14 June 1807. The Musée national Eugène Delacroix ( en, National Eugène Delacroix Museum), also known as the Musée Delacroix, is an art museum dedicated to painter Eugène Delacroix (1798–1863) and located in the 6th arrondissement at 6, rue de Furstenberg, Paris, France. It is open daily except Tuesday; an admission fee is charged. History The museum is located in painter Eugène Delacroix's last apartment; he moved to this location on December 28, 1857, and remained until his death on August 13, 1863. In 1929, the Société des Amis d'Eugène Delacroix was formed to prevent the building's destruction; in 1952, the Société acquired the apartment, studio, and garden, and in 1954 donated the property to the French government. Delacroix is a Brussels Metro station on lines 2 and 6. It is located in the municipality of Anderlecht, in the western part of Brussels, Belgium. Blanche Zélia Joséphine Delacroix, better known as Caroline Lacroix (; 13 May 1883 – 12 February 1948), was the most prominent and notorious of Leopold II of Belgium's mistresses. Delacroix, who was of French origin, met the king in Paris as a young girl, when she was only 16 and he was 65. At that time, she earned her living from prostitution. They soon embarked upon a relationship that was to last until his death in 1909. Jean-François de Lacroix or Delacroix (; 3 April 1753 – 5 April 1794) was a French politician and member of the Committee of Public Safety. He was known as "Lacroix of Eure-et-Loir" and was guillotined in 1794.
