Dekada '70 (novel)
''Dekada '70'' () is a Filipino novel by Lualhati Bautista. It tells the story of a middle-class family in Manila living through martial law under Ferdinand Marcos. The novel was awarded the 1983 Palanca Award Grand Prize. Translations An English-language translation by Clarisse de Jesus was self-published by Bautista. In 2022, it was reported by Bautista that Penguin Random House was offering to publish an English-language translation as part of the Penguin Classics series. Adaptations The novel was adapted as a 2002 film of the same name under Star Cinema, directed by Chito S. Roño, and with a screenplay by Lualhati Bautista. The film starred Vilma Santos and Christopher de Leon with Piolo Pascual, Carlos Agassi, Marvin Agustin, Danilo Barrios, John Wayne Sace, and Kris Aquino. Lualhati Bautista
Lualhati Torres Bautista (born December 2, 1945) is a Filipina writer, novelist, liberal activist and political critic. Her most popular novels include '' Dekada '70''; '' Bata, Bata, Pa'no Ka Ginawa?''; and '' ‘GAPÔ''. Biography Bautista was born in Tondo, Manila, Philippines on December 2, 1945 to Esteban Bautista and Gloria Torres. She graduated from Emilio Jacinto Elementary School in 1958, and from Torres High School in 1962. She was a journalism student at the Lyceum of the Philippines, but dropped out because she had always wanted to be a writer and schoolwork was taking too much time. Her first short story, "Katugon ng Damdamin," was published in Liwayway Magazine and thus started her writing career. Gawad Urian Award
The Gawad Urian Awards are annual film awards in the Philippines held since 1977. It is given by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (MPP, "the Filipino Film Critics") and is currently regarded as the counterpart of the United States' New York Film Critics Circle. Establishment The MPP was formed by a host of scholars, film writers and other award-winning writers on May 1, 1976 as a critics' voice to rival the then-only award-giving body in the Philippines, which is its Oscars', the FAMAS Awards. Three years earlier, what would be the members of the MPP were included in the judges' roster of the FAMAS after a shocking 1972 Best Actress tie materialized between major star Boots Anson-Roa and then-rising star Vilma Santos. The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is an annual film festival held in Metro Manila, Philippines. The festival, which runs from December 25 (Christmas) through New Year's Day and into first weekend of January in the following year, focuses on Filipino films. During the course of the festival, movie theaters show only films that are approved by its jurors and exclude foreign films except in 3D theaters and IMAX theaters. Since 2010s, film entries were played in select 3D cinemas that it can show movies in 2D format. It is one of the two Filipino major film festivals to exclude movies out of the country in a week-long period, the other being the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino happening during August.
