Deivi Cruz
Deivi Cruz Garcia (born November 6, 1972) is a Dominican former professional baseball shortstop. Cruz played at the Major League Baseball level for nine seasons (-) with the Detroit Tigers, San Diego Padres, Baltimore Orioles, San Francisco Giants, and Washington Nationals. In 1,234 career games, Cruz had a .269 batting average (baseball), batting average with 70 home runs and 464 runs batted in. In 1997, Cruz was honored as Tigers Rookie of the Year. Cruz was released by the St. Louis Cardinals on March 30, 2006, and signed with the Bridgeport Bluefish on June 10, 2006. Cruz' nephew, Yeyson Yrizarri, is also a professional baseball shortstop. Shortstop
Shortstop, abbreviated SS, is the baseball or softball fielding position between second and third base, which is considered to be among the most demanding defensive positions. Historically the position was assigned to defensive specialists who were typically poor at batting and were often placed at the bottom of the batting order. Today, shortstops are often able to hit well and many are placed at the top of the lineup. In the numbering system used by scorers to record defensive plays, the shortstop is assigned the number 6. More hit balls go to the shortstop than to any other position, as there are more right-handed hitters in baseball than left-handed hitters, and most hitters have a tendency to pull the ball slightly.
