Deirdre Tarrant
Deirdre Elizabeth Anne Tarrant (born 1946) is a New Zealand dancer, dance teacher and choreographer. She was the founding director of Footnote Dance and is principal of the Tarrant Dance Studios. Tarrant was born in 1946, the daughter of Alfred Edward Tarrant, a Wellington manufacturer. She danced with the New Zealand Ballet Company while studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree at Victoria University of Wellington in 1967. Tarrant founded Footnote Dance in 1985. She led that company until 2012, when she handed over to Malia Johnston. She has been a vocational examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance. She is principal of the Tarrant Dance Studios. Peter McKenzie (actor)
Peter Leo McKenzie is a New Zealand actor who is best known for his portrayal as Elendil in Peter Jackson's '' The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring''. He also appeared in Jackson's ''King Kong''. His wife, Deirdre Tarrant, is a choreographer who founded Footnote Dance. Bret Peter Tarrant McKenzie (born 29 June 1976) is a New Zealand musician, comedian, music supervisor, and actor. He is best known as one half of musical comedy duo Flight of the Conchords along with Jemaine Clement. In the 2000s, the duo's comedy and music became the basis of a BBC radio series and then an oft-lauded American television series, which aired for two seasons on HBO. Active since 1998, the duo released their most recent comedy special, '' Live in London'', in 2018. Primarily a musician, McKenzie has worked as a songwriter and music supervisor for film and television since the 2010s. Footnote New Zealand Dance (founded in 1985) is New Zealand's oldest contemporary dance company. Based in Wellington, it has been described as "New Zealand’s most enduring and influential contemporary dance company." History Footnote was founded in 1985 by Wellington ballet teacher Deirdre Tarrant with a “dual commitment to fostering original works by local choreographers and composers, and establishing dance workshops in schools”. Malia Johnston is a New Zealand choreographer and dance director who has created works for many of New Zealand's dance companies including Footnote Dance, the New Zealand Dance Company, and events such as the World of Wearable Arts and the Armistice centenary 11 November 2018. Biography From 2007 to 2014 Jonston was artistic director for the World of Wearable Art Awards show. Flight of the Conchords is a New Zealand musical comedy duo formed in Wellington in 1998. The band consists of multi-instrumentalists Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement. Beginning as a popular live comedy act in the early 2000s, the duo's comedy and music became the basis of the self-titled BBC radio series (2005) and, subsequently, the HBO American television series (2007–2009).
