Deirdre Cartwright
Deirdre Cartwright (born 27 July 1958) is a British guitarist and composer. Cartwright was a member of Painted Lady, which later became known as Girlschool; she left to form another band, Tour De Force. In 1983 Cartwright provided the guitar tuition element of the BBC/PBS series '' Rockschool'' alongside bass guitarist Henry Thomas and drummer Geoff Nicholls. In 1989, along with Alison Rayner, she started a regular monthly night at the Vortex Jazz Club called ''Blow The Fuse''. Girlschool
Girlschool are a British rock band that formed in the new wave of British heavy metal scene in 1978. Frequently associated with contemporaries Motörhead, they are the longest-running all-female rock band, still active after more than 40 years. Formed from a school band called Painted Lady, Girlschool enjoyed strong media exposure and commercial success in the UK in the early 1980s with three albums of 'punk-tinged metal' and a few singles, but lost their momentum in the following years. In the 1990s and 2000s, Girlschool focused on shows and tours and made few studio albums. During their career they travelled the world, playing in many rock and metal festivals and co-headlining with or supporting important hard rock and heavy metal bands. They maintain a worldwide cult following, and are an inspiration for many female rock musicians. Henry Jackson Thomas (born September 9, 1971) is an American actor. He began his career as a child actor and had a lead role in the film '' E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial'' (1982), for which he won a Young Artist Award and received a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA Award, and Saturn Award nominations. Geoff Nicholls (drummer)
Geoffrey James Nicholls (29 February 1944 – 28 January 2017) was a British guitarist and keyboardist, and longtime member of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath until 2004. Nicholls also played in the NWOBHM band Quartz before joining Black Sabbath. In the 1960s/early 1970s, Geoff played lead guitar for the Birmingham bands The Boll Weevils, The Seed, Johnny Neal and the Starliners, and played keyboards for World of Oz. Black Sabbath Nicholls was originally brought in as a second guitarist when Black Sabbath doubted whether they would even continue under that name. Nicholls then switched to bass when Geezer Butler left briefly, and then became the band's keyboardist upon Butler's return and the decision to keep the Sabbath name. Vortex Jazz Club
The Vortex Jazz Club is a music venue in London, England. It was founded by David Mossman in the 1988. Background The Vortex started as a jazz club in 1988 and was located in Stoke Newington Church Street, north London. But after the acquisition of that building by property developers, the club was moved in 2005 to the Dalston Culture House in Gillett Street, N16, in Gilett Square. The Square opened on 10 November 2006 with a performance by Andy Sheppard's Saxophone Massive, a band of 200 saxophonists. The street in front of the club was renamed "Aim Bailey Place" in December 2007 in honor of guitarist Derek Bailey.
