Defence Act Of 2000 (Sweden)
The Defence Act of 2000 (prop. 1999/2000:30) was a defence act passed by the Swedish Riksdag on 30 March 2000, and the largest reorganisation of the Swedish Armed Forces since the Defence Act of 1925. The act was a continuation of the policies set in motion by the Defence Act of 1996: shifting the military's focus from the defence of Swedish territory to a more flexible "operational defence* (Swedish: ''insatsförsvar'') for smaller-scale peacekeeping operations in foreign nations. Many military formations were disbanded as a result. Defence Act (Sweden)
A Defence Act ( sv, Försvarsbeslut, literally ''Defence Decision'') is an act passed by the Swedish Riksdag every four years which details how the Swedish Armed Forces will function and develop during the coming years. Between 1901 and 1958, Acts were generally passed every ten years, with the exception of the Defence Act of 1942, which was passed earlier due to World War II. The Defence Act of 1968 introduced a system requiring Defence Acts to be passed every five years. The work revolving a new Defence Act starts off with all elements of the Swedish Total Defence drawing up plans on what structure and capacity the Defence will operate under during the coming 10 to 15 years. After discussions with the government, the defence authorities deliver a proposal to the cabinet detailing how the defence of Sweden can be developed. Southern Army Division
The Southern Army Division ( sv, Södra arméfördelningen, 13. förd), was a division of the Swedish Army that operated in various forms from 1941 until 2000. Its staff was located in Kristianstad Garrison in Kristianstad. The unit was disbanded as a result of the disarmament policies set forward in the Defence Act of 2000. Eksjö
Eksjö is a locality and the seat of Eksjö Municipality in Jönköping County, Sweden, with 9,701 inhabitants in 2010. History The city of Eksjö most likely appeared sometime in the Middle Ages when it was the centre for the ''thing'', a regional council. It is first mentioned on April 22, 1345, under the name "Ekesiö" in an estate sale court protocol. It was given its charter in 1403 by the King Erik av Pommern. In the 16th century Eksjö was one of the six Swedish cities in the province of Småland. The others were Jönköping, Kalmar, Västervik, Växjö and Vimmerby. After the crowning of King Gustav Vasa in 1524, the partisan leader Nils Dacke led a rebellion. Dacke took control of the area and was supported by the locals, also in Eksjö. Småland Regiment
The Småland Regiment ( sv, Smålands regemente), designations I 12 and I 12/Fo 17, was a Swedish Army infantry regiment that traced its origins back to the 16th century. The unit was disbanded as a result of the disarmament policies set forward in the Defence Act of 2000. History The regiment was formed in 1928 as Jönköping-Kalmar Regiment (I 12), following a merger of Jönköping Regiment (I 12), and the Kalmar Regiment (I 21). The regiment moved the same year to the Eksjö garrison. In 1948 the regiment changed its name to Northern Småland Regiment (I 12). On July 1, 1974 the regiment formed with Jonkopings defense area (Fo 17) a defensive field regiment to be known as The 12/Fo 17. Life Regiment Grenadiers
Life Regiment Grenadiers ( sv, Livregementets grenadjärer), also I 3, was a Swedish Army infantry unit that was active in various forms 1815–2000. The unit was based in Örebro Garrison in Örebro and belonged to the King's Life and Household Troops (''Kungl. Maj:ts Liv- och Hustrupper'') until 1974. History The unit has its root in the Life Regiment Grenadier Corps (''Livregementets grenadjärkår''), which at the division of the Life Regiments (in 1791) was called the Life Regiment Brigade's Light Infantry Battalion (''Livregementsbrigadens lätta infanteribataljon''), but which in 1804 adopted the name Life Regiment Grenadier Corps. Its strength then amounted to foura companies with 500 men, divided into Stockholm County, Södermanland County, Västmanland County and Örebro County. Kristinehamn
Kristinehamn is a locality and the seat of Kristinehamn Municipality, Värmland County, Sweden, with 17,839 inhabitants in 2010. Geography Kristinehamn is situated by the shores of lake Vänern where the small rivers ''Varnan'' and ''Löt'' drain into the lake. It has a harbour and is a railroad and road transportation center. Värmland Regiment
The Värmland Regiment ( sv, Värmlands regemente), designations I 22, I 2 and I 2/Fo 52, was a Swedish Army infantry regiment that traces its origins back to the 16th century. The regiment's soldiers were originally recruited from the province of Värmland, where the unit was later garrisoned. The unit was disbanded as a result of the disarmament policies set forward in the Defence Act of 2000. History The regiment has its origins in fänikor (companies) raised in Värmland in the 16th century. These units—along with fänikor from the nearby province of Närke—were organised into Närke-Värmland Regiment, which was split into two new regiments in 1812, one being Värmland Regiment, the other being Närke Regiment. Life Guards (Sweden)
The Life Guards ( sv, Livgardet, designation LG) is a combined Swedish Army cavalry/infantry regiment. Its responsibilities include the defence of Stockholm as well as provision of the royal guard of honour for the King of Sweden and the Stockholm Palace. With traditions dating from 1521, the regiment is one of the oldest military units in continuous operational existence in the world. It was established in its present form in July 2000, following a merger of the Svea Life Guards and the Life Guard Dragoons. Upplands-Bro Municipality
Upplands-Bro Municipality (''Upplands-Bro kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Kungsängen. The municipality was formed in 1952 through the amalgamation of five rural municipalities in Uppsala County. In 1971 it was transferred to Stockholm County. Svea Life Guards
The Svea Life Guards ( sv, Svea livgarde), also I 1, was a Swedish Army infantry regiment that was active in various forms 1521–2000. The unit was based in the Stockholm Garrison in Stockholm and belonged to the King's Life and Household Troops (''Kungl. Maj:ts Liv- och Hustrupper'') until 1974. Berga Naval Base
Berga Naval Base ( sv, Berga örlogsbas) is a naval base of the Swedish Navy located in the Hårsfjärden fjard near Berga, Haninge Municipality. Today it is the home of the 4th Naval Warfare Flotilla, the 1st Marine Regiment and Home Guard unit Södertörn Group (''Södertörnsgruppen'').
