Daniel Fernandez (born December 22, 1981), better known by his stage name Def3, is a Canadian rapper from Regina, Saskatchewan, based in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is the founder of Ship Records, and a member of the groups Side Road, Dead Can't Bounce, and Metropolis Now. In 2015, Def3 won the Western Canadian Music Award for "Rap/Hip-Hop Recording of the Year" for his 2014 album ''Wildlif3''. Kristian Powlowski, better known by his stage name Kay the Aquanaut, is a Canadian alternative hip hop artist from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He has released nine albums and has toured internationally. Several of Kay the Aquanaut's albums have been produced by Factor, and he has made appearances on Factor's own albums. Kay the Aquanaut is also a member of the band Reform Party, who began in 2011 by covering Rage Against the Machine songs before developing original material. Alternative hip hop (also known as alternative rap) is a subgenre of hip hop music that encompasses a wide range of styles that are not typically identified as mainstream. AllMusic defines it as comprising " hip hop groups that refuse to conform to any of the traditional stereotypes of rap, such as gangsta, bass, hardcore, and party rap.
