Deer Creek Grove
Deer Creek Grove is a small giant sequoia grove located in the Deer Creek watershed of the Giant Sequoia National Monument in the western Sierra Nevada of California. The grove is located near the end of a steep trail south from the end of Deer Creek Mill Road. It is the southernmost giant sequoia grove. The grove is attractively situated about halfway up a pine-covered mountain that rises above a valley of grassy foothills. The grove consists of a scattered collection of old-growth giant sequoias on a sheltered east-facing slope. While the present day distribution of this species is limited to a small area of California, it was once much more widely distributed in prehistoric times, and was a reasonably common species in North American and Eurasian coniferous forests until its range was greatly reduced by the last ice age. Tulare County ( ) is a county located in the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 census, the population was 473,117. The county seat is Visalia. The county is named for Tulare Lake, once the largest freshwater lake west of the Great Lakes. Drained for agricultural development, the site is now in Kings County, which was created in 1893 from the western portion of the formerly larger Tulare County. Tulare County comprises the Visalia- Porterville, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county is located south of Fresno, spanning from the San Joaquin Valley east to the Sierra Nevada. This is a list of giant sequoia groves. All naturally occurring giant sequoia groves are located in the moist, unglaciated ridges and valleys of the western slope of the Sierra Nevada range in California, United States. They can be found at elevations between . While many groves are within national park boundaries, such as Sequoia National Park and Yosemite National Park, most of the giant sequoia groves are under the care of the United States Forest Service, placing them outside the legislative mandate that excludes commercial timber harvest. 2021 California Wildfires
The 2021 California wildfire season was a series of wildfires that burned across the state of California. As of December 16, 2021, a total of 8,619 fires have been recorded, burning across the state. At least 3,629 buildings have been destroyed by the wildfires, and at least seven firefighters and two civilians have been injured battling the fires. The wildfire season in California experienced an unusually early start amid an ongoing drought and historically low rainfall and reservoir levels.
