Deep Springs (formerly, Deep Spring) is a set of artesian springs in Inyo County, California that were used for irrigation. It lies within the treaty territory of the Western Bands of the Shoshone Nation of Indians (Timbisha Band of Western Shoshone Indians). It is located in the northeastern section of Deep Springs Valley, east of Bishop, 2.6 km (1.6 mi) north of Soldier Pass, and 6.4 km (4 mi) southwest of Chocolate Mountain (formerly Piper Mountain), at an elevation of 5194 feet (1583 m). Deep Springs Valley is a high desert valley in the Inyo-White Mountains of Inyo County, California. It is east of the Owens Valley and the Sierra Nevada mountain range, and south of Fish Lake Valley, Nevada, near the California-Nevada state border. California State Route 168 connects it to the Owens and Fish Lake valleys, crossing Westgard Pass to the west and Gilbert Pass to the north. To the northwest lies White Mountain Peak. To the east lies Eureka Valley, connected via Soldier Pass in the Piper Mountain Wilderness, which can be traversed on horseback but not by automobile. Bishop (formerly Bishop Creek) is a city in California, United States. It is the largest populated place and only incorporated city in Inyo County. Bishop is located near the northern end of the Owens Valley, at an elevation of .
