Debasree Chaudhuri
Debasree Chaudhuri (born 31 January 1971) is an Indian politician who served as the Minister of State for Woman and Child Development in the Second Modi ministry in the Government of India. She was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha from Raiganj constituency in West Bengal in the 2019 Indian general election as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Early life Chaudhuri was born in Balurghat to Debidas Chaudhuri and Ratna Chaudhuri. She completed her Master of Arts from the University of Burdwan. Political career On 16 December 2016, Chaudhuri was arrested along with Baisnabnagar MLA Swadhin Kumar Sarkar and other local BJP leaders at a protest condemning comments made by Maulauna Noor ur Rahman Barkati, the Shahi Imam of the Tipu Sultan Mosque in Kolkata. 2019 Indian General Election
General elections were held in India in seven phases from 11 April to 19 May 2019 to elect the members of the 17th Lok Sabha. Votes were counted and the result was declared on 23 May. Around 912 million people were eligible to vote, and voter turnout was over 67 percent – the highest ever, as well as the highest ever participation by women voters. The Bharatiya Janata Party received 37.36% of the vote, the highest vote share by a political party since the 1989 general election, and won 303 seats, further increasing its substantial majority. In addition, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 353 seats. The Indian National Congress won 52 seats, failing to get 10% of the seats needed to claim the post of Leader of Opposition; Congress led United Progressive Alliance won 91 seats. Tipu Sultan Mosque
The Tipu Sultan Shahi Mosque (also known as Tipu Sultan Masjid) is a famous mosque in Kolkata, India named after Tipu Sultan the ruler of Mysore. Located at 185 Dharamtalla Street, the mosque is a relic of architectural and cultural heritage. Construction This building was built in 1842 by Ghulam Muhammad Sultan Sahib, Prince Ghulam Mohammed, the youngest son of Tipu Sultan. An identical mosque, which was earlier built in 1835 by him is at Tollygunge. The Ghulam Mohammed Wakf Estate manages the two mosques now. At first, Ghulam Mohammed used his own money to purchase a land in the central area of Calcutta and Built this mosque in 1842, in memory of his father Tipu Sultan. Noor Ur Rahman Barkati
Syed Mohammad Noor ur Rahman Barkati is an Indian Muslim cleric who was the Shahi Imam of the West Bengal in Kolkata. Though he claimed himself to be ''Shahi Imam'' (Royal Imam), according to a report of ''Ebela'', he was not so as he did not lead any royal in prayer. Appointment Barkati is the second ''imam'' from his family, succeeding his father in 1989. Controversies In March 2010, Barkati was accused of formalising the marriage of a Muslim boy with a transgender girl. Though he admitted the fact, he said the matter was "politically motivated".
