Bernice Surprise Summerfield (later Professor Bernice Summerfield or just Benny) is a fictional character created by author Paul Cornell as a new companion of the Seventh Doctor in Virgin Publishing's range of original full-length '' Doctor Who'' novels, the ''New Adventures''. The ''New Adventures'' were authorised novels carrying on from where the ''Doctor Who'' television series had left off, and Summerfield was introduced in Cornell's novel '' Love and War'' in 1992. ''Doctor Who'' is a British science fiction television series broadcast by the BBC since 1963. David A. McIntee (born 31 December 1968) is a British writer. Career McIntee has written many spin-off novels based on the BBC science fiction television series ''Doctor Who'', as well as one each based on ''Final Destination'' and '' Space: 1999''. He has also written a non-fiction book on '' Star Trek: Voyager'' and one jointly on the ''Alien'' and ''Predator'' movie franchises.
