''Death Scenes'' is a 1989 mondo film starring Church of Satan founder Anton LaVey and directed by Nick Bougas. Overview Satanist Anton Lavey hosts this morbid mondo documentary about death. Sequels The film was followed by two sequels, ''Death Scenes 2'' from 1992 and ''Death Scenes 3'' from 1993. ''Death Scenes 2'' provides an inside look at the history of death, particularly war between the United States and other foreign conflicts. A short introduction of the horrors of war begins with the ideological findings from Ernst Friedrich (1894-1967). Friedrich was a German pacifist who wrote and published a book called ''War Against War''. The film says that in 1924, he founded the National Anti-War Museum in Berlin, where a radical new method of protest was born. To illustrate his point of view on war, Friedrich quickly displayed hundreds of disturbing photographs which fully revealed the hidden horrors of World War One. Faces Of Death
''Faces of Death'' (later re-released as ''The Original Faces of Death'') is a 1978 American mondo horror film written and directed by John Alan Schwartz, credited under the pseudonyms "Conan Le Cilaire" and "Alan Black" respectively. The film, shown in a documentary-like style, centers on pathologist Francis B. Gröss, played by actor Michael Carr. The narrator presents the viewer with a variety of footage showing different gruesome ways of dying from a variety of sources. Some of the most iconic scenes were faked for the film, while most of the film is preexisting video footage of real deaths or aftermath of death. ''Faces of Death'' received generally negative reviews, but was a huge success at the box office, reportedly grossing over $35 million worldwide. Mondo Films
Mondo films are a subgenre of exploitation films and documentary films. Many mondo films are made in a way to resemble a pseudo-documentary and usually depicting sensational topics, scenes, or situations. Common traits of mondo films include portrayals of foreign cultures (which have drawn accusations of ethnocentrism or racism),Kerekes & Slater, p. 108. an emphasis on taboo subjects such as death and sex, and staged sequences presented as genuine documentary footage. Over time, the films have placed increasing emphasis on footage of the dead and dying (both real and fake). The term ''mondo'' is derived from the Italian word for "world". The term shockumentary is also used to describe the genre. Mondo films began to soar in popularity in the 1960s with the releases of ''Mondo Cane'' (1962), ''Women of the World'' (1963) and ''Africa Addio'' (1966). The Zapruder film is a silent 8mm color motion picture sequence shot by Abraham Zapruder with a Bell & Howell home-movie camera, as United States President John F. Kennedy's motorcade passed through Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963. It captured the assassination of the President. Although it is not the only film of the shooting, the Zapruder film has been described as being the most complete, giving a relatively clear view from a somewhat elevated position on the side from which the president's fatal head wound is visible. It was an important piece of evidence before the Warren Commission hearings, and all subsequent investigations of the assassination. It is one of the most studied pieces of film in history. Nick Bougas
Nick Bougas (born 1955) is an American documentary film director, illustrator and record producer. As a cartoonist, he has used the pen name A. Wyatt Mann to produce racist, antisemitic, antifeminist and homophobic cartoons. Career Bougas directed the mondo film '' Death Scenes'', hosted by Church of Satan founder Anton LaVey. The film was followed by ''Death Scenes 2'' in 1992, and ''Death Scenes 3'' in 1993. In 1993, he directed the documentary '' Speak of the Devil: The Canon of Anton LaVey'', a profile of LaVey. Bougas has directed several other films, such as the 1994 documentary '' The Goddess Bunny'', about disabled transgender tap dancing artist Sandie Crisp. Murder, Inc. (Murder, Incorporated) was an organized crime group, active from 1929 to 1941, that acted as the enforcement arm of the National Crime Syndicatea closely connected criminal organization that included the Italian-American Mafia, the Jewish Mob, and other criminal organizations in New York City and elsewhere. Rotten Tomatoes is an American review-aggregation website for film and television. The company was launched in August 1998 by three undergraduate students at the University of California, Berkeley: Senh Duong, Patrick Y. Lee, and Stephen Wang. Although the name "Rotten Tomatoes" connects to the practice of audiences throwing rotten tomatoes in disapproval of a poor stage performance, the original inspiration comes from a scene featuring tomatoes in the Canadian film ''Léolo'' (1992). Since January 2010, Rotten Tomatoes has been owned by Flixster, which was in turn acquired by Warner Bros in 2011.
