Dearne FM was a local radio station serving Barnsley. The station was folded into Greatest Hits Radio Yorkshire, as part of a rebrand, on 1 September 2020. History The station was based at Zenith Park on Whaley Road, Barugh Green, in the north-west of Barnsley. As a result of cost cutting, Dearne FM co-located with sister stations Trax FM, Rother FM and Ridings FM at studios on White Rose Way in Doncaster. FM broadcasting is a method of radio broadcasting using frequency modulation (FM). Dearne Valley (South Yorkshire)
The Dearne Valley is an area of South Yorkshire, England, along the River Dearne. It encompasses the towns of Wombwell, Wath-upon-Dearne, Swinton, Conisbrough and Mexborough, the large villages of Ardsley, Bolton on Dearne, Goldthorpe, Thurnscoe, Darfield, Stairfoot and Brampton Bierlow, and many other smaller villages and hamlets. In 1995 the area became a regeneration area, as it had suffered much from the sudden decline of the deep coal mining industry in the 1980s. Hallam FM is an Independent Local Radio station based in Sheffield, England, owned and operated by Bauer as part of the Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to South Yorkshire. As of September 2022, the station has a weekly audience of 283,000 listeners according to RAJAR. History The station started broadcasting on 1548 kHz/194m AM, 95.2 and 95.9 MHz FM under the name of Radio Hallam from its studios at Hartshead in Sheffield City Centre on 1 October 1974. Penistone
Penistone ( ) is a market town and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England, which had a population of 22,909 at the 2011 census. A628 Road
The A628 is a major road connecting Greater Manchester and South Yorkshire in northern England. It crosses the Pennine hills by way of Longdendale and the Woodhead Pass in the Peak District National Park. The road's altitude and exposure to bad weather create problems in winter and the road is sometimes closed due to snow or high winds. Route The road starts to the east of Manchester at the end of the M67 motorway and A57 road. Hoylandswaine is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. Located near Penistone and west of the M1 along the A628 it enjoys easy access to more significant locales such as Sheffield, Barnsley, and Leeds. Ardsley is a small village approximately east from Barnsley and forms part of the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley of South Yorkshire, England.
