Dearborn County, Indiana
Dearborn County is one of 92 counties of the U.S. state of Indiana located on the Ohio border near the southeast corner of the state. It was formed in 1803 from a portion of Hamilton County, Ohio. In 2020, the population was 50,679. The county seat and largest city is Lawrenceburg. Dearborn County is part of the Cincinnati, OH-KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. History In 1803, following Ohio's admission to the Union, a wedge, or pie shaped, remnant of the former Northwest Territory along Ohio's southwestern border was ceded to Indiana Territory and organized as Dearborn County. It was named after Henry Dearborn who was U.S. Secretary of War at that time. Lawrenceburg was then designated as the county seat. All or part of seven other present day counties were carved from the original county with the present boundaries being established in 1845. Henry Dearborn
Henry Dearborn (February 23, 1751 – June 6, 1829) was an American military officer and politician. In the Revolutionary War, he served under Benedict Arnold in his expedition to Quebec, of which his journal provides an important record. After being captured and exchanged, he served in George Washington's Continental Army. He was present at the British surrender at Yorktown. Dearborn served on General George Washington's staff in Virginia. He served as Secretary of War under President Thomas Jefferson, from 1801 to 1809, and served as a commanding general in the War of 1812. In later life, his criticism of General Israel Putnam's performance at the Battle of Bunker Hill caused a major controversy. Fayette County is one of 92 counties in U.S. state of Indiana located in the east central portion of the state. As of 2020, the population was 23,398. Most of the county is rural; land use is farms, pasture and unincorporated woodland. The county seat and only incorporated town is Connersville, which holds a majority of the county's population. The county was historically significant early in the 19th century as a conduit for settlement of the Northwest Territory, and again in the early 20th century as an automotive manufacturing center, but has been in economic decline since the 1960s and is now among the poorest counties in the state. Hidden Valley, Indiana
Hidden Valley is a private residential community in Dearborn County, Indiana, United States. For statistical purposes it is a census-designated place (CDP), with a population of 5,387 at the 2010 census, up from 4,417 at the 2000 census. Setting The Hidden Valley community is located in southeastern Indiana and is built around Hidden Valley Lake, an impoundment on Doublelick Run, a small stream which flows southeast to the Ohio River. History A post office was established at Bright in 1847, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1904. At least since the 1980s, Bright has been transformed from a small town to an exurb of Cincinnati. Moores Hill, Indiana
Moores Hill is a town in Sparta Township, Dearborn County, Indiana, United States. The population was 597 at the 2010 census. History Platted in 1839 by Adam Moore and Andrew Stevens, it originally contained nine lots adjacent to Moore's gristmill. The community was originally known as Moores Mill, but postal authorities misspelled it Moores Hill, and the name stuck. Many early settlers in the town were Methodist families from Delaware and the shore of Maryland. The first mercantile business was established by Samuel Herron. Moores Hill and its citizens are the subjects of the 1941 volume ''Pop. 359'', a book of poems self-published by Indianapolis Star' columnist Carl Wilson under the pseudonym Tramp Starr.
