Dear Reader
Dear Reader is an alternative/pop band from Johannesburg, South Africa. The band was founded in 2008 by singer-songwriter Cherilyn MacNeil and producer/bass player, Darryl Torr. Dear Reader is now the solo project of Cherilyn MacNeil and is based in Berlin, Germany. History Prior to 2008, MacNeil and Torr performed under the name Harris Tweed. Under this name the band had commercial success and won awards in South Africa. The duo changed their name to Dear Reader after receiving legal threats from the Harris Tweed Authority. In 2008 they recorded their first album as Dear Reader called, ''Replace Why with Funny''. The album was produced by Brent Knopf, of Menomena/Ramona Falls (band). Soon after, they signed a licensing deal with Berlin-based indie label, City Slang, and the album was released in February 2009 – in Europe by City Slang, and in South Africa by Just Music. Leipzig
Leipzig ( , ; Upper Saxon: ) is the most populous city in the German state of Saxony. South is one of the cardinal directions or compass points. The direction is the opposite of north and is perpendicular to both east and west. Matt Sheehy
Lost Lander is an indie rock project founded by Matt Sheehy, touring multi-instrumentalist for Ramona Falls and EL VY, and former member of the duo Gravity & Henry. The band's name is taken from a dream Sheehy's mother had about a place where she spent part of her childhood named Lost Land Lake. Many of the band's songs are autobiographical for Sheehy, inspired by his personal experiences like the death of his mother, the disintegration of his marriage engagement, and his ensuing relationship with longtime friend/bandmate Sarah Fennell. Lost Lander has released three studio albums and performed over 200 shows in the US, Canada, Europe, and Russia. In support of their debut album ''DRRT'', Lost Lander toured the US in 2012, making a stop at SXSW. An international tour followed in 2014. Calexico (band)
Calexico is a Tucson, Arizona-based Americana, Tex-Mex, indie rock band. The band's two main members, Joey Burns and John Convertino, first played together in Los Angeles as part of the group Giant Sand. They have recorded a number of albums on Quarterstick Records, while their 2005 EP ''In the Reins'', recorded with Iron & Wine, reached the Billboard 200 album charts. Their musical style is influenced by traditional Latin sounds of mariachi, conjunto, cumbia, and tejano mixed with country, jazz, and post-rock. The band is named for the border town of Calexico, California, and has been described by some as "desert noir". Get Well Soon (band)
Get Well Soon is a music and band project of the German singer, songwriter and instrumentalist Konstantin Gropper. He has released six albums and a number of EPs and singles. Career Gropper was born September 28, 1982 in Biberach an der Riss, Germany, the son of Walter Gropper, a music teacher in Erolzheim. He grew up in a musical household and learned to play the cello at an early age while he attended the gymnasium in Ochsenhausen. At secondary school he formed his first band, Your Garden and briefly studied languages at the Heidelberg University before enrolling at the Mannheim Pop Academy. His sister Verena is a soprano and they occasionally perform together. He worked 3 years on his debut album ''Rest Now, Weary Head! You Will Get Well Soon'' which was released in Europe by the Label City Slang and by Nude Records in the UK and Ireland in January 2008. Earl Harvin
Earl Harvin is an American drummer, percussionist and multi-instrumentalist who has lived in Dallas, Texas and Los Angeles and is now residing in Berlin, Germany. Harvin studied at the University of North Texas College of MusicSpecial Interview , ''TAMA drums'', copyright 2006 where he was a member of the One O'Clock Lab Band for one year, beginning 1989. Throughout most of the 1990s, he led the jazz band Earl Harvin Trio (including Fred Hamilton and Dave Palmer (American keyboardist), Dave Palmer) and led the rock band rubberbullet (band), rubberbullet. John Vanderslice
John Vanderslice (born May 22, 1967 in Gainesville, Florida) is an American musician, songwriter, record producer, and recording engineer. He is the owner and founder of Tiny Telephone, an analog recording studio with locations in San Francisco Mission District and North Oakland. He released 10 full-length albums and 5 remix records and EPs on Dead Oceans and Barsuk Records and has collaborated with musicians such as The Mountain Goats, St. Vincent, and Spoon. Since 2014, Vanderslice has been a full-time record producer at Tiny Telephone and has worked with Frog Eyes, Samantha Crain, the Mountain Goats, and Grandaddy. Rivonia is a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa in the Sandton area. It is located in Region E of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. South African Music Awards
The South African Music Awards (often simply the SAMAs) are the Recording Industry of South Africa's music industry awards, established in 1995. The ceremony is held annually, usually in late April or May, with the judging process starting in November of the previous year. The nominations are typically announced at the end of March. The winners receive a gold-plated statuette called a SAMA. The show has mostly been held at the Super Bowl in Sun City, with the exception of three years, and broadcast live on national broadcaster, SABC.
