Deane Pappas
Deane Pappas (born 12 December 1967) is a South African professional golfer. He has won twice on both the Southern Africa-based Sunshine Tour and on the second-tier United States based Buy.com Tour, now the Web.com Tour. Pappas was born in Phalaborwa, Limpopo province, South Africa, as the second youngest of four brothers, three of them to became professional golfers. He was a three-time All-American at the University of Arkansas, where he was a teammate of John Daly. At the 1988 Eisenhower Trophy at Ullna Golf Club in Stockholm, Sweden, Pappas together with his brother Sean, was part of the four-men team representing Greece. Pappas turned professional in 1992 and joined the Sunshine Tour in 1994. He won for the first time on the tour in 2001, at the prestigious South African PGA Championship. Phalaborwa (translated to English as ''better than the south; phala'' means ''better than and borwa'' means ''south'') is a town in the Mopani District Municipality, Limpopo province, South Africa. Brenden Pappas (born 7 May 1970) is a professional golfer from South Africa who currently plays on the Web.com Tour. Early life Pappas was born in Phalaborwa, South Africa. He is the youngest of four brothers, Craigen Pappas (born 1959), Sean (born 1966) and Deane (born 1967). Eisenhower Trophy
The Eisenhower Trophy (World Men's Amateur Team Championships) is the biennial World Amateur Team Championship for men organized by the International Golf Federation. Since the tournament was first played in 1958, it is named after Dwight D. Eisenhower, the President of the United States at the time, who was a keen amateur golfer. The equivalent competition for women is the Espirito Santo Trophy. Results The 1958 championship resulted in a tie. There was an 18-hole playoff which Australia won with a score of 222 to the United States 224. From 1958 to 2000 the teams had four players with the best three scores counting for each round. Hugh Baiocchi
Hugh John Baiocchi (born 17 August 1946) is a South African professional golfer who has won more than 20 professional tournaments around the world. Professional career Baiocchi was born in Johannesburg. He turned professional in 1971 and spent his regular career playing mainly in Europe. He was a member of the European Tour from its first season in 1972 until 1993 and made the top one hundred on the Order of Merit for the Tour's first nineteen seasons, including three top ten placings: 1973 (3rd); 1975 (6th) and 1977 (2nd). The Nelson Mandela Invitational was a charity golf tournament which took place annually in South Africa from 2000 until 2006. It was named in honor of former South African President Nelson Mandela, and hosted by South Africa's most successful professional golfer Gary Player. Tim Petrovic (born August 16, 1966) is an American professional golfer. He won one PGA Tour event, and has finished runner-up in four senior major golf championships. Early life Petrovic was born in Northampton, Massachusetts. He played college golf for the Hartford Hawks, and was an NCAA Division I All-American selection in 1988. Petrovic was a teammate of future PGA Tour professional Jerry Kelly. He was inducted into University of Hartford's Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995. Tjaart van der Walt (born 25 September 1974) is a South African professional golfer. Career Like many top golfers, van der Walt received a golf scholarship to study in the United States, attending Central Alabama Community College. James Bongani Kamte (born 20 July 1982), nicknamed "Cobra", is a South African professional golfer. He has played on the Sunshine Tour, Challenge Tour, European Tour, and Asian Tour. 2009 Sunshine Tour
The 2009 Sunshine Tour was the tenth season of professional golf tournaments since the southern Africa based Sunshine Tour was relaunched in 2000, and the third since the tour switched a calendar based season in 2007. The Sunshine Tour represents the highest level of competition for male professional golfers in the region. The tour was based predominantly in South Africa, with 26 of the 30 tournaments being held in the country. Two events were held in Swaziland, with one each in Zambia and Namibia. As usual, the tour consisted of two distinct parts, commonly referred to as the "Summer Swing" and "Winter Swing". Tournaments held during the Summer Swing generally had much higher prize funds, attracted stronger fields, and were the only tournaments on the tour to carry world ranking points, with three events being co-sanctioned with the European Tour.
