De Symons Montagu George Honey
Sir de Symons Montagu George Honey, (1 November 1872 – January 1945) was a South African-born colonial administrator. He served as Resident Commissioner in Swaziland, from 1917 to 1928 and as Governor of the Seychelles from 1928 to 1933. Life and career Honey was born in Alexandria, Cape Province, the son of J. W. Honey, retired Civil Commissioner and Resident Magistrate, Cape Service. He was educated at Carnarvon Public School. He then joined the British South Africa Police and took part in the Pioneer Column which occupied Mashonaland. He served in the British Central Africa Administration and took part in the Second Boer War. In 1901 he joined the Transvaal Civil Service under Lord Milner. He specialised in Swaziland affairs, and in 1904 was appointed Secretary to the Governor of the Transvaal for Swaziland affairs. Both are derived from the old French "Sieur" (Lord), brought to England by the French-speaking Normans, and which now exist in French only as part of "Monsieur", with the equivalent "My Lord" in English. Sir Gordon James Lethem, KCMG (16 September 1886 – 14 August 1962) was a British colonial administrator. He was born in Leith, Scotland, the son of James Lethem and Marian Macintosh. He was Governor of British Guiana from 7 November 1941 to 1946. He was acting Governor from 1946 to 12 April 1947. He also served in Nigeria, the Seychelles, and the Leeward Islands. Lethem's papers are held in Bodleian Library at the University of Oxford. After retiring from the civil service he became involved in politics. He was a member of the Liberal Party. In 1950 he was Vice-President of the Scottish Liberal Party. He stood as a Liberal candidate at the United Kingdom general election of 1950 in the constituency of Banffshire. Robert Vere De Vere
Robert Stephen Vere de Vere (13 July 1872 – 15 September 1936) was an Irish judge in the British Colonial Service. He was the son of Major Aubrey Stephen Vere O’Brien of Adare, Limerick, Ireland and changed his surname to de Vere by Royal Licence after inheriting Curragh Chase on the death of his father in 1898. He was educated at Winchester School and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was awarded B.A. in 1891, and LL.B. in 1894. He then entered the Middle Temple to study law and was "called to the bar" in 1898. He joined the Colonial Civil Service in Limerick and served as a Magistrate before going to South Africa with the Paget's Horse Regiment to fight in the Boer War. He later served as Lieutenant in the 5th (Cinque Ports) Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment.
