De Saloon
''De Saloon'' are a Chilean pop and rock band originally from the city of Concepción, Chile. Early years Jean Pierre Duhart and Ricardo Barrenechea had been friends since preschool. In their final years at school they met José Miguel Amigo, who introduced them to Roberto Arancibia, and together the four decided to form a band and relocate to Santiago in 1997. The band was originally a quartet, but José Miguel Amigo left the group in 1998 to go back to Concepción and later moved abroad to Germany. First tracks Once in Santiago, the band participated in workshops at Balmaceda 1215, a Chilean institution dedicated to the arts. They went on to win a competition which gave them the funds to record their first demo, "Esfumar". Despite the fact that they had not yet been signed, the song got airtime on local Chilean radio stations and become popular in the grassroots Chilean music scene, as did their second, "Brigida". Lollapalooza Chile is the Chile-based version of the popular music festival Lollapalooza (). It is held in Santiago, Chile. History The annual festival launched in April 2011 in Santiago’s O'Higgins Park and features alternative rock, Heavy metal music, heavy metal, punk rock and hip hop music, hip-hop bands from both Chile and abroad. It was the first edition of Lollapalooza to take place outside of the United States and was followed by the launch of Lollapalooza Brazil in São Paulo in 2012. 2010 Chile Earthquake
The 2010 Chile earthquake and tsunami ( es, Terremoto del 27F) occurred off the coast of central Chile on Saturday, 27 February at 03:34 local time (06:34 UTC), having a magnitude of 8.8 on the moment magnitude scale, with intense shaking lasting for about three minutes. It was felt strongly in six Chilean regions (from Valparaíso in the north to Araucanía in the south) that together make up about 80 percent of the country's population. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) the cities experiencing the strongest shaking—VIII (''Severe'') on the Mercalli intensity scale (MM)—were Concepción, Arauco, and Coronel. O'Higgins Park
O'Higgins Park (, formerly known as Parque Cousiño), with an area of around , is Santiago, Chile's second largest public park after Metropolitan Park. It is located in the center of the capital, in the Santiago Commune. Camila Moreno
Camila Moreno (born July 8, 1985 in Santiago) is a Chilean rock and folk singer-songwriter. Career Between 2006 and 2008 she is part of Caramelitus duo with Tomás Preuss. The group duo composed pop electronical music and received good critics from specialized newspapers. She became famous after the release of her first album ''Almismotiempo'' ("At-the-same-time") in 2009. She was nominated the same year for a Latin Grammy in the Best Alternative Song category for her single "Millones". Banda Conmoción
''Banda Conmoción'' are a Chilean ensemble band who mix cumbia and gypsy music with genres such as ska and cha-cha-cha. They are part of the new Latin-American fusion movement and emerged in the early nineties along with groups like Chico Trujillo and La Floripondio. They are also considered part of the New Chilean Cumbia movement. Early years The band's first incarnation was as part of a theater troupe called ''Mendicantes'' in 1997. Manuel Javier García Herrera (born 1 March 1970) is a folk-pop Chilean singer-songwriter and guitarist. He has won several awards and has twice received the Chilean National Music Prize, awarded by the Chilean Government (in 2008 and 2012). Early life García studied History and Geography Education at the University of Tarapacá in Arica and then moved to Santiago in 1994 to study professional guitar performance ("interpretación superior en guitarra") at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile with fellow musician Luis Orlandini. His professional career began in 1995 when he founded the band Coré (which also included later members of Chilean band Inti Illimani). Los Bunkers
Los Bunkers (Spanish for ''The Bunkers'') is an alternative rock band from Concepción, Chile, formed in 1999 by brothers Álvaro and Gonzalo López, Mauricio Basualto, and brothers Francisco and Mauricio Durán. They are well known in their country for their contemporary sounds of rock, based on sounds of the 1960s, from bands like The Beatles, and also including sounds from their folk roots. The band name is essentially a play on words that at the simplest level recalls Chilean rock groups of the 1960s like Los Jokers and Los Sonnys.
