Eagle
Eagle is the common name for many large birds of prey of the family Accipitridae. Eagles belong to several groups of genera, some of which are closely related. Most of the 68 species of eagle are from Eurasia and Africa. Outside this area, just 14 species can be found—2 in North America, 9 in Central and South America, and 3 in Australia. Eagles are not a natural group but denote essentially any kind of bird of prey large enough to hunt sizeable (about 50 cm long or more overall) vertebrates. Description Eagles are large, powerfully-built birds of prey, with heavy heads and beaks. Even the smallest eagles, such as the booted eagle (''Aquila pennata''), which is comparable in size to a common buzzard (''Buteo buteo'') or red-tailed hawk (''B. jamaicensis''), have relatively longer and more evenly broad wings, and more direct, faster flight – despite the reduced size of aerodynamic feathers. De Arend, Coevorden
De Arend (English ''The Eagle'') is a smock mill in Coevorden, Netherlands. It was built in 1894. The mill is listed as a Rijksmonument, number 11493. (Click on "Technische gegevens" to view) History De Arend was built by millwrights Ritsema Brothers of Stroobos, Friesland for J B Soppe. It later passed into the ownership of H Soppe. The Dutch magazine ''De Molenaar'' of 25 November 1969 stated that the mill was built in 1888. Thus the mill may have been moved here in 1894. In 1937, the mill was repaired and fitted with streamlined sails. The mill was sold to the municipality of Coevorden in 1976. It was in a poor state and overgrown with ivy. Restoration by millwright J D Medendorp of Zuidlaren was completed in 1977. Windmills In Leeuwarden
The city of Leeuwarden, Friesland, the Netherlands has had at least 130 windmills over the centuries. Only one, the ''Froskepôlemolen'' survives today within Leeuwarden. Six other mills which have stood in Leeuwarden survive elsewhere in the Netherlands. The mills had a wide range of industrial and agricultural uses. The industrial uses include the processing of bark for tanning leather, the fulling of cloth, the production of cement, the production of dyes, the extraction of oil (including the production of paints), the grinding of tobacco to produce snuff, the production of gunpowder, and the sawing of timber. Agricultural uses include the milling of buckwheat, oats, rye and wheat, the processing of chicory, the production of pearl barley, and the pumping of water. De Arend (English: ''The Eagle'') is a windmill located on the Molenstraat 40 in Terheijden, Drimmelen, in the province of North Brabant, Netherlands. Built in 1742 the windmill functioned as a gristmill. The mill was built as a tower mill and its sails have a span of 24.80 meters. The mill is a national monument (nr 34992) since 19 May 1971. The mill is still in use and is property of the municipality of Drimmelen. It is open to public viewing. History The mill was built in 1742 by order of the noble family of Nassau-Siegen from Breda. A large foundation stone can still be seen commemorating this occasion. The mill burned down in 1756 and had to be rebuilt. During the French period of the early 19th century the mill became private property. In the late 1960s the mill became property of the former municipality of Terheijden, which had the mill restored. The mill has 3 millstones, 2 of which are in use. One is electrically driven and the other by wind.

De Arend (English: ''The Eagle'') is a windmill located on the Akkerstraat 11 in Wouw, Roosendaal, in the province of North Brabant, Netherlands. Built in 1811 on an artificial hill, the windmill functioned as a gristmill. The mill was built as a tower mill and its sails have a span of . The mill is a national monument (nr 39624) since 24 June 1971. History The mill was built in 1811 by the order of Jacobus Aerden, who took the opportunity to build a mill right after the ''molendwang'', a system in which local peasants were obligated to use a certain local mill, was discontinued by the French revolutionaries. The mill burned down in 1825 and was rebuilt that same year. In 1914, the de Aerden family sold the mill to Jacobus Potters, whose family still owns the mill.De Arend
