DeWayne McBride
DeWayne McBride (born July 8, 2001) is an American football running back for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at UAB, where he was named the 2022 Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for over 1,700 yards with 19 touchdowns. High school career McBride attended Vanguard High School in Ocala, Florida. As a senior, McBride recorded 936 yards and 12 touchdowns.A three-star recruit, McBride committed to play college football at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. College career As a freshman in 2020, McBride played in six games, tallying 439 yards on 47 carries while scoring four touchdowns. Doak Walker Award
Since 1990 the Doak Walker Award honors the top running back in college football in the United States. It is named in honor of Doak Walker, a former running back who played for the SMU Mustangs from 1945 to 1949 and in the National Football League for the Detroit Lions from 1950 to 1955. The player is selected by the award's National Selection Committee, which consists of notable sportswriters, television commentators, analysts, radio sports personalities and former All-America and NFL All-Pro football players. 2022 UAB Blazers Football Team
The 2022 UAB Blazers football team represented the University of Alabama at Birmingham as a member of Conference USA (C-USA) during the 2022 NCAA Division I FBS football season. They were led by interim head coach Bryan Vincent, who was coaching his first season with the team. The Blazers played their home games at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Alabama. During the last season, on October 21, 2021, UAB accepted the invitation to join the American Athletic Conference (AAC) and will become a full member on July 1, 2023. The 2020 UAB Blazers football team represented the University of Alabama at Birmingham in the 2020 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Blazers played their final home games at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama, and competed in the West Division of Conference USA (C-USA). They were led by fifth-year head coach Bill Clark. After compiling a 6–3 record (3–1 in conference play), the team accepted a bid to the Gasparilla Bowl. However, on December 22, the Blazers' bowl opponent, South Carolina, had to withdraw from the bowl due to COVID-19 issues within their program.
