DeHart H. Ames
DeHart Henry Ames (January 30, 1872 in Great Valley, Cattaraugus County, New York – October 27, 1955 Ellicottville, New York) was an American businessman and politician from New York. Life He was the son of David Edson Ames (1840–1915) and Clementine Carolyn (Hart) Ames (1846–1941). He attended Ten Broeck Academy and Fredonia Normal School. Then he engaged in banking, and later also in the real estate and insurance business, in Franklinville. He was Sheriff of Cattaraugus County, New York from 1907 to 1909. Ames was a member of the New York State Assembly (Cattaraugus Co.) in 1915, 1916, 1917, 1918, 1919 and 1920; and was Chairman of the Committee on Charitable and Religious Societies in 1918. He was a member of the New York State Senate (51st D.) from 1921 to 1924, sitting in the 144th, 145th, 146th and 147th New York State Legislatures. Great Valley, New York
Great Valley is a town in Cattaraugus County, New York, United States. The population was 1,997 at the 2020 census. The town is named after its local geographical setting, a relative comparison of two tributaries (the other being the neighboring Little Valley) of the Allegheny River. The town of Great Valley is centrally located in the county, northeast of the city of Salamanca. History The town's area was first settled ''circa'' 1812, with the first settlement, Kill Buck, coalescing in 1818. Little Valley is a town in Cattaraugus County, New York, United States. The population was 1,672 at the 2020 census. The town is named after its local geographical setting, a relative comparison of two tributaries (the other being the neighboring Great Valley) of the Allegheny River. The town of Little Valley is centrally located in the county, north of the city of Salamanca. The town contains a village also named Little Valley, which is the county seat. Allegany State Park
Allegany State Park is a state park in western New York State, located in Cattaraugus County just north of the Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania. The park is divided into two sections: The Red House Area and the Quaker Run Area. It lies within the Allegheny Highlands forests ecoregion. The Red House Area is the northeastern half of Allegany State Park. The Red House area's attractions include Stone Tower, the Summit Fire Tower, Red House Lake, Bridal Falls, and the Art Roscoe Ski Area.
