''If I Were Harap Alb'' ( ro, De-aș fi... Harap Alb) is a 1965 Romanian fantasy film directed by Ion Popescu-Gopo. It was entered into the 4th Moscow International Film Festival where Popescu-Gopo won the award for Best Director. The film is based on the fairy tale The Story of Harap Alb by Romanian writer Ion Creangă. Plot Taken from an old fairy tale. White Moor is the prince who is second in line to the throne. After the king sends him to visit his uncle, the prince meets various memorable people and is captured by a bad guy who assumes his identity and forces him to become a slave. Ion Popescu-Gopo
Ion Popescu-Gopo (; 1 May 1923 – 28 November 1989) was a Romanian graphic artist and animator, but also writer, film director, and actor. He was born in Bucharest, Romania. He was a prominent personality in the Romanian cinematography and the founder of the modern Romanian cartoon school. He was, together with Liviu Ciulei and Mirel Ilieșiu, one of the few Romanian film artists who won an award at the Cannes Film Festival in the 20th century. His film, "Scurtă Istorie" (''A Brief History''), won the ''Short Film Palme d'Or'' for best short film in 1957. His 1965 film, ''The White Moor'', was entered into the 4th Moscow International Film Festival, where he won the award for Best Director. Mircea Bogdan (born 5 June 1982) is a retired Romanian long-distance runner who specialized in the 3000 metres steeplechase. As a junior he won the silver medal at the 2001 European Junior Championships and finished seventh at the 2001 Summer Universiade. Chris Avram (born Cristea Avram; August 31, 1931 – January 10, 1989) was a Romanian-Italian film actor. Early life and career Avram was born in Bucharest, into a family of active communists (his father being a member of the Romanian Communist Party while it was still banned, and his brother, Puiu, a Communist activist). In his youth, he attended a military school, after which he studied law for two years at the University of Bucharest, before being admitted to the Academy of Theatrical Arts and Cinematography. After graduation, he worked for a while as a theater actor in Timișoara, before joining the in Bucharest. At a film festival in Moscow, he befriended Marina Vlady, who later went to Romania to star in , directed by Henri Colpi. With her help, he managed to flee to Paris in 1966, where he remained.
