Ratagedara Herath Mudiyanselage Dayaratne ( :si:දයාරත්න රටගෙදර; born 20 February), popularly known as Dayaratne Ratagedara, is a filmmaker in Sri Lankan cinema and a television director. He has produced several critically acclaimed award-winning television serials such as ''Mahamera Pamula'', ''Bogala Sawundiris'' and ''Sitha Niwana Katha''. Apart from direction, he is a journalist, television director, assistant costume designer, make-up artist, assistant director and program producer. Personal life Dayaratne was born on 20 February as the eldest of the family with six siblings. His father, R. M. H. Bandara from Hanguranketha, Kandy worked as a store manager at Geoffrey Brothers, Colombo. His mother, K. D. Nandawathi was a housewife. He started primary education from Terrence N. Dhamma Jagoda (28 January 1941 – 4 February 1988) was the first Head of the Drama Unit at the National Television channel Rupavahini Corporation in Sri Lanka. He was a pioneer theater and television play director and actor in Sri Lanka. He inaugurated the first theatre school (the Lionel Wendt Kala Kendra Ranga Shilpa Shalika) at Lionel Wendt Art Centre, Colombo 7, in the 1970s and it was the foundation for many artists who have emerged in Sri Lanka in recent years. Shri (; , ) is a Sanskrit term denoting resplendence, wealth and prosperity, primarily used as an honorific. Somaratne Dissanayake is a Sri Lankan film director, Screenwriter and Producer. He is the Chairman of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and the president of the Film Makers Guild of Sri Lanka (FMG).
