Dawn McEwen
Dawn Kathleen McEwen (born Askin; July 3, 1980) is a Canadian retired curling, curler from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was the long-time lead for the Jennifer Jones (curler), Jennifer Jones rink, who became Olympic champions, winning gold for Canada at the Curling at the 2014 Winter Olympics, 2014 Winter Olympics. McEwen is a two-time world champion in curling, having won with Jones at the 2008 Ford World Women's Curling Championship, 2008 World Championships and again at the 2018 Ford World Women's Curling Championship, 2018 World Championships. In 2019, McEwen was named the greatest Canadian female lead (curling), lead in history in a The Sports Network, TSN poll of broadcasters, reporters and top curlers. 2022 Players' Championship
The 2022 Players' Championship, Princess Auto Players' Championship was held April 12–17 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto, Ontario. It was the fourth Grand Slam of Curling, Grand Slam and final major of the 2021–22 curling season, following the cancellation of the Open (curling), Meridian Open. Despite feeling ill in the final due to food poisioning, Anna Hasselborg led her team to their seventh Grand Slam title, and completed a career Grand Slam, becoming the first women's team to do so. Qualification The top 16 ranked men's and women's teams on the World Curling Federation's world team rankings qualified for the event. 2016 Humpty's Champions Cup
The 2016 Humpty's Champions Cup was held from April 26 to May 1 at the Sherwood Park Arena Sports Centre in Sherwood Park, Alberta. This was the final Grand Slam event of the 2015–16 curling season and is the seventh men's Grand Slam and the sixth women's Grand Slam of the season. The teams were split into 3 round-robin pools of 5 teams each, and the top eight teams overall will qualify for the playoff round. Teams from the Winnipeg area won both the men's and women's events, with Reid Carruthers winning his first slam as a skip on the men's side and Jennifer Jones winning her 12th slam on the women's side. Both Carruthers and Jones happened to qualify for the Champions Cup by winning the same event, the DeKalb Superspiel. Champions Cup (curling)
The Champions Cup (branded as the KIOTI Tractor Champions Cup for sponsorship reasons) is a Canadian curling tournament. Part of the Grand Slam of Curling (GSoC) and the World Curling Tour, it is the sixth GSoC event on the women's tour and the seventh on the men's tour. The tournament's field usually includes 15 teams each in the men's and women's competitions. 13 of the spots are filled by champion teams from GSoC events, and world, national, and regional champions, The champions of two World Curling Tour events, based on the strength of field, are also invited. 2011 Players' Championship
The 2011 GP Car and Home Players' Championship was a Grand Slam curling bonspiel held at the Crystal Centre in Grande Prairie, Alberta from April 12–17. It features a men's and women's draw, where the top sixteen teams from the Order of Merit rankings for the 2010-11 curling season are invited to compete. It was the final Grand Slam event for the season, and one of the last curling events for the season. The purse for the men's and women's event was CAD$100,000 each. On the men's side, Kevin Martin won his record seventh Players' championship with a win over Niklas Edin in seven ends, while Jennifer Jones secured her fourth Players' championship with a win over Ontario junior champion Rachel Homan after a big eighth end. 2009 Players' Championships
The 2009 Grey Power Players' Championship was the last Grand Slam event of both the World Curling Tour and Women's World Curling Tour for the 2008-09 season. This was the seventeenth time the event has taken place, and the fourth time since it was switched to joint men's/women's format. The event was held in Grande Prairie, Alberta April 14-19. Since the event was a part of the Olympic qualifying process in Canada, only Canadian teams were invited. The total purse for each event is $100,000. Players' Championships
The Players' Championship is one of the final events on the World Curling Tour (WCT) and is a part of the Grand Slam of Curling. From 2016 to 2019, it was the penultimate slam of the curling season, and the last of the four "majors". The event was one of the original Grand Slam events when they were instituted in the 2001–02 season for men and for the 2006–07 season for women. History The event began as the "VO Cup" before the Grand Slam era in 1993, as part of the very first World Curling Tour season. The event was known as the VO Cup for two seasons before title sponsor Seagram's Distillery pulled out. With no sponsor, the 1995 event was saved at the last minute, and continued the next season thanks to a TV deal with TSN. A women's event was introduced in 2006. 2017 Boost National
The 2017 BOOST National was held from November 14 to 19 at the Essar Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. This was the third Grand Slam of Curling event of the 2017–18 curling season. Many of the top European teams on the World Curling Tour could not attend, as they are playing in the 2017 European Curling Championships while the top American teams on the Tour are playing in the 2017 United States Olympic Curling Trials. In the men's final, Team Bruce Mouat from Scotland won their first career Grand Slam title against the South Korean Olympic team, skipped by Kim Chang-min, who was playing in their first Grand Slam ever.
