Dawid Mocke
Dawid John Steyn Mocke (born 1 September 1977) is a South African surf ski athlete, entrepreneur and sports personality. During his athletic career he represented South Africa internationally and has won multiple World and South African surf ski and kayaking titles. In 2010 Mocke and his brother Jasper won the SA Doubles Champs as well as the US Surfski Champs. In the same year he was named sportsman of the year at the Western Cape Provincial Sport Awards. In 2014 Mocke and his brother Jasper won their 4th National Doubles Title. Notable Achievements He started the world's first surf ski school in 2002 and launched a kayaking gear brand in 2012. In 2016 and 2017 he joined the Lewis Pugh Foundation Antarctica 2020 expeditions as a safety kayaker. Surf Ski
A surfski (or: "surf ski", "surf-ski") is a type of kayak in the kayaking "family" of paddling craft. It is generally the longest of all kayaks and is a performance oriented kayak designed for speed on open water, most commonly the ocean, although it is well suited to all bodies of water and recreational paddling. The most common use of surfskis is in surf lifesaving competitions and downwind paddling. Because of the surfski's unique open water capabilities, its speed and versatility, and the physical training it requires to paddle, it has become a popular pastime for water sports enthusiasts who want to combine the elements of adventure, fitness and competition into a single discipline. Lewis Pugh
Lewis William Gordon Pugh, OIG, (born 5 December 1969) is a British-South African endurance swimmer and ocean advocate. Dubbed the "Sir Edmund Hillary of swimming", he is the first person to complete a long-distance swim in every ocean of the world, and he frequently swims in vulnerable ecosystems to draw attention to their plight. Pugh is known for undertaking the first swim across the North Pole in 2007 with the aim of highlighting the melting of the Arctic sea ice. In 2010 he swam across a glacial lake on Mount Everest, to draw attention to the melting of the glaciers in the Himalayas and the impact the reduced water supply will have on peace in the region. In 2018 he swam the full length of the English Channel to call for 30% of the world's oceans to be protected by 2030. Canoe marathon is a paddling sport in which athletes paddle a kayak (double-bladed paddle) or canoe (single-bladed paddle) over a long distance to the finish line. International Canoe Federation
The International Canoe Federation (ICF) is the umbrella organization of all national canoe organizations worldwide. It is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, and administers all aspects of canoe sport worldwide. 157 countries are affiliated with the ICF after seven national federations were added at the 2008 ICF Congress in Rome.
