Anne Daw
Anne Daw is a South Australian advocate for the protection of water resources and prime agricultural land from mining and petroleum activities including exploration and production. Daw grew up on her father's grazing property near Kingston in the state's South East region, and began campaigning in 2007 when her neighbouring property came under threat because of a proposed lignite mine, near Kingston SE. She has been a member of the Government of South Australia's Roundtable for Oil and Gas, previously known as the Round Table for the Roadmap for Unconventional Gas Projects in South Australia, since 2012. Daw has also held a seat at a Round Table for Health and Energy Policy in Canberra in 2013. Daw has continued to work at local, state, national and international levels, taken part in many public speaking engagements and forums, and has done extensive media in all forms. Christopher Daw (born February 1, 1970, in North York, Ontario) is a Paralympian who's name goes into the Canadian sports history books as one of its most versatile athletes. He has competed in adaptive track, marathons, wheelchair basketball, volleyball, wheelchair rugby, and curling for Canada. He was once considered the fastest wheelchair athlete in 1985 through 1987, and is the only Canadian athlete to represent Canada at multiple Paralympic Games for multiple different sports. He is also one of the few athletes to represent Canada at both Summer & Winter Paralympic Games. In 1986, he won 6 Gold medals and set 6 world records at the first World Games for disabled youth in Nottingham, England. Evelyn Daw (born Evelyn Pearl Shuck; November 16, 1912 – November 29, 1970), was an American singer and actress. Early years Born Evelyn Pearl Shuck, Daw was the daughter of Walter Shuck and Edith Miller Shuck of Geddes, South Dakota, both of whose families were pioneers who settled in South Dakota. As a child, she sang in her church choir and acted in school plays. After finishing high school in 1930, she attended Dakota Wesleyan University for one year before moving to Los Angeles to seek additional musical training. While studying voice, she filled in for soloists at two churches in Los Angeles. Career Daw sang in operettas put on by local groups in Los Angeles, and a musician for one of the productions arranged for her to audition with director Victor Schertzinger. John Daw
John Daw (1870–1965) was the last surviving U.S. Army Indian Scout veteran who had served in the American Indian Wars. He was a Navajo given the Navajo name at birth. His parents, grandparents, as well as other close relatives were part of the Long Walk of the Navajo to Fort Sumner, and were confined with the other Navajo at Fort Sumner in the 1860s. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 7, 1891, with the name John Daw. He was assigned to the U.S. Army 2nd Cavalry, which was posted at Fort Wingate in the New Mexico Territory. After being issued uniforms, guns, ammunition, and horses, he felt the cavalry soldiers' training was very thorough. He stated that the target practice and other military training was continued until they were very highly trained soldiers. He worked as a tracker, specifically looking for Apache Indians, and he served in this capacity until he left the service on December 5, 1894. Leila Daw (born 1940) is an American installation artist and art professor; her work uses diverse materials to explore themes of cartography and feminism. Life and work Leila Daw received her Masters of Fine Arts from the St. Louis School of Fine Arts at Washington University, and her Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. She was a professor of art from 1974 through 1976 at Tusculum College, Maryville College, and Forest Park Community College, from 1976 through 1990 at Southern Illinois University, and from 1990 to 2002 at the Massachusetts College of Art. Majak Daw (born 11 March 1991) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the North Melbourne Football Club and the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Daw and his family in Australia are refugees from the civil wars in Sudan. Daw became the first Sudanese Australian to be drafted to an AFL club when he was contracted to North Melbourne in the 2009 AFL Draft.
