Davison is a city in Genesee County, Michigan, Genesee County in the U.S. state of Michigan and a suburb of Flint, Michigan, Flint. The population was 5,536 at the 2000 United States Census, 2000 census and fell to 5,173 by the 2010 census. Township of Davison is a civil township of Genesee County in the U.S. state of Michigan consisting of the survey township of North 7 East 8 less the administratively autonomous city of Davison. The population was 19,575 at the 2010 census, up from 17,722 at the 2000 census. Davison Freeway
M-8 is a state trunkline highway in the U.S. state of Michigan lying within the cities of Detroit and Highland Park. Much of it is the Davison Freeway, the nation's first urban depressed freeway, which became a connector between the Lodge (M-10) and the Chrysler ( Interstate 75, I-75) freeways. Named for an English immigrant to the area, Davison Avenue was originally the only street connecting across Highland Park to Detroit. It was rebuilt by the city and Wayne County as a freeway during World War II. The roadway was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) in 1993 and numbered as M-8. Subsequent changes by the state rebuilt the freeway and extended the M-8 designation to connect to the Jeffries Freeway (I-96). Davison County is a county in the U.S. state of South Dakota. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 19,956. Its county seat is Mitchell. The county was created in 1873 and organized in 1874. It was named for Henry C. Davison, the first settler in the county. Davison County is part of the Mitchell, SD Micropolitan Statistical Area. History The area's first settlement occurred in 1871 in "Firesteel Creek"; the settlers were Herman Cady Greene and John Head. Greene brought lumber from Yankton in 1872 and built a frame house. Davison's of Atlanta, Georgia, Atlanta was a department store chain and an Atlanta shopping institution. It was the major competition to Rich's (department store), Rich's and it took the Macy's name in 1986. Founding Davison's first opened its doors in Atlanta in 1891 and had its origins in the Davison & Douglas company. In 1901, the store changed its name to Davison-Paxon-Stokes after the retirement of E. Lee Douglas from the business and the appointment of Frederic John Paxon as treasurer. In early 1927 the company dropped the "Stokes" to become Davison Paxon Co.. While rival Rich's (department store), M. Davison High School is a girls' Church of England secondary school serving pupils aged 11 to 16 in Worthing, West Sussex, England. In its last inspection the school was judged by OFSTED as Good. The school accommodates around 1080 girls across five year groups. The original Davison School was a boys' school, opened on Chapel Road in 1812 and named after the Reverend William Davison, the first chaplain of St Paul's Church, Worthing. The school moved to its current site off Selborne Road in 1960. The culverted Teville Stream flows under the school's playing fields.
