David Zucker (politician)
David "Dedi" Zucker ( he, דוד צוקר, born 11 September 1948) is an Israeli peace activist and former politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Ratz, Meretz and as an independent between 1986 and 1999. Biography Born in Haifa in 1948, Zucker studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, gaining a BA and MA. He also studied towards a doctorate at Tel Aviv University. In 1978 he was amongst the founders of Peace Now, and between 1984 and 1988 served as secretary general of Ratz. Zucker won a place on the Ratz list prior to the 1984 Knesset elections, but failed to win a seat. However, he entered the Knesset on 26 November 1986 as a replacement for Mordechai Bar-On, who had resigned. He was re-elected in 1988, the same year in which he helped found B'Tselem. He was re-elected again in 1992 (by which time Ratz had merged into Meretz) and 1996. Haifa
Haifa ( he, חֵיפָה ' ; ar, حَيْفَا ') is the third-largest city in Israel—after Jerusalem and Tel Aviv—with a population of in . The city of Haifa forms part of the Haifa metropolitan area, the third-most populous metropolitan area in Israel. It is home to the Baháʼí Faith's Baháʼí World Centre, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a destination for Baháʼí pilgrimage. The Greens (Israel)
The Greens ( he, הַיְּרוּקִים, HaYerukim) is a minor political party in Israel that emphasizes environment protection and quality of life. It was founded and formerly headed by Pe'er Visner. Although the party was never represented in the Knesset, it holds seats in many municipalities across Israel. History The Greens were established in 1997. In the 1999 Knesset elections the party received 0.4% of the vote, failing to win a seat. They received the same share of the vote in the 2003 elections. In the 2006 elections, the party received 47,595 votes (1.52%). However, it was not enough to pass the 2% threshold, and they were ultimately the largest party not to obtain seats in the Knesset ( Balad, with 72,066 votes, was the smallest party to obtain seats). Meretz ( he, מֶרֶצ, ) is a left-wing political party in Israel. The party was formed in 1992 by the merger of Ratz, Mapam and Shinui, and was at its peak between 1992 and 1996 when it had 12 seats. It currently has no seats in the Knesset, following its failure to pass the electoral threshold in the 2022 elections. Meretz is a social-democratic and secular party emphasising a two-state solution to the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, social justice, human rights (especially for religious, ethnic and sexual minorities), religious freedom and environmentalism. The party is a member of the Progressive Alliance and Socialist International, and is an observer member of the Party of European Socialists. Hebrew (; ; ) is a Northwest Semitic language of the Afroasiatic language family.
