David Young (guitarist)
David Justin Young (2 May 1949 – 31 August 2022) was an English musician, record producer and sound engineer best known for his playing with the John Cale Band in the 1980s and collaborating with the German band Element of Crime for 35 years. Career Young started his career in the 1970s. He was one of the three sound engineers on David Bowie's Diamond Dogs North American Tour in 1974. He also worked with Duke Ellington. In 1982, he started working with John Cale, initially as a sound engineer (along with David Lichtenstein) on what would become the '' Music for a New Society'' album. He also plays guitar on some songs and joined his live band as a full member soon after. He then played on two more studio albums, '' Caribbean Sunset'' (1984) and ''Artificial Intelligence'' (1985), the latter of which he also co-produced, as well as two live albums, '' Comes Alive'' (1984) and '' Live at Rockpalast'' (recorded 1984, released 2010). Les Nouvelles Polyphonies Corses is a Corsican revival band, concerned with the indigenous music of Corsica. It is the project of Patrizia Poli and Patrizia Gattaceca, who were heavily involved in the 1970s Corsican Roots Revival movement. Their eponymous debut album ''Les Nouvelles Polyphonies Corses'' (1991) was arranged and produced by Hector Zazou, featuring Manu Dibango on saxophone, Ivo Papasov on clarinet, Richard Horowitz, Jon Hassell on trumpet, Shaymal Maltra on tabla, djembe, and ghatam, John Cale and Ryuichi Sakamoto on piano, with Zazou doing "electronics". Wrong Way Up
''Wrong Way Up'' is a 1990 album by Brian Eno and John Cale. The album sits between the electronic, prog-rock and art rock genres and features some of both Eno and Cale's most mainstream work. The cover was conceived by Eno. The 2005 re-release on All Saints Records was remastered and had a different cover, but reverted to the original in 2020. It contains two bonus tracks, "Grandfather's House" and ″You Don't Miss Your Water″ by Eno. Both titles only appeared on single or EP before; the latter was taken from the 1988 OST album ''Married to the Mob''. Reception ''Trouser Press'' praised the album, calling it "an absolutely wonderful pop record, a subversion of Top 40 formulae to the pair's own idiosyncratic (but utterly accessible) ends." Happy Mondays
Happy Mondays are an English rock band formed in Salford in 1980. The original line-up was Shaun Ryder (vocals), his brother Paul Ryder ( bass), Gary Whelan (drums), Paul Davis (keyboard), and Mark Day (guitar). Mark "Bez" Berry later joined the band onstage as a dancer/percussionist. Rowetta joined as a second vocalist in 1990. They were initially signed to Tony Wilson's Factory Records label. The group's work bridged the Manchester independent rock music of the 1980s and the emerging UK rave scene, drawing influence from funk, house, and psychedelia to pioneer the Madchester sound. They experienced their commercial peak with the releases ''Bummed'' (1988), ''Madchester Rave On'' (1989), and ''Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches'' (1990), with the last going platinum in the UK. Ollie Halsall
Peter John "Ollie" Halsall (14 March 1949 – 29 May 1992) was an English guitarist best known for his role in the Rutles, the bands Timebox, Patto and Boxer, and for his contribution to the music of Kevin Ayers. He is also notable as one of the few players of the vibraphone in rock music. He was known by his childhood nickname 'Olly' or 'Ollie' which was simply a corruption of his surname. The Ollie Halsall Archive was established in 1998, with the aim of documenting and promoting his work. Career Halsall began his musical career in 1964 playing drums with various local bands such as Pete and the Pawnees, the Gunslingers, the Music Students and Rhythm and Blues Incorporated.
