David Wittey
David Wittey (born 10 April 1966) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda and the Sydney Swans in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL). Wittey, a half back from Old Brighton Grammarians, made his debut in the opening round of the 1986 VFL season against Footscray and had 17 disposals. He went on to appear in St Kilda's first 15 games of the year before losing his place in the side. In the 1987 pre-season Wittey was involved in an incident with teammate Tony Lockett during a practice match. Wittey was struck with a round-arm punch to the head from Lockett and the full-forward was reported by the goal umpire. Wittey was selected by the Brisbane Bears in the 1989 Pre-season Draft but didn't play a senior game for the club. 1988 VFL Draft
The 1988 VFL draft, held on the 9th of November 1988, was the third annual national draft held by the VFL/AFL, Victorian Football League (now known as the Australian Football League). It consisted of a pre-season draft and a national draft. In 1988 there were 112 picks to be drafted between 14 teams in the national draft. The Hawthorn Football Club received the first pick in the national draft, after receiving it from St Kilda Football Club, St Kilda in the first ever trade involving draft picks, in return for Paul Harding (Australian rules footballer), Paul Harding, Peter Russo and Robert Handley. Brisbane Bears
The Brisbane Football Club, nicknamed the Bears, was a professional Australian rules football club based in Queensland on the Gold Coast (relocated to Brisbane in 1993). The club participated in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL) between 1987 and 1996, and entered the league as the first of two non-Victorian expansion teams. It was the first privately owned club in the league's history. Its mascot was a koala and its main colours were maroon ( official colour of the state of Queensland) and gold (of the Queensland sunshine). Tony Lockett
Anthony Howard Lockett (born 9 March 1966) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the St Kilda Football Club and Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). Nicknamed "Plugger", he is considered one of the greatest full forwards and players in the game's history. Inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2006 and upgraded to Legend status in 2015, he is the most prolific goal kicker in VFL/AFL history, breaking Gordon Coventry's record in 1999 and eventually finishing with 1,360 goals in 281 games. He became the first full-forward to be awarded the Brownlow Medal in 1987, won the Coleman Medal four times, and kicked more than 100 goals in a season on six occasions (an AFL record he shares with Jason Dunstall of Hawthorn).
