David W. Pershing
David W. Pershing is an American educator and former president of the University of Utah. He received a bachelor's degree from Purdue University in 1970 and a PhD from University of Arizona. Career Pershing joined the faculty of the University of Utah in 1977 as a professor of chemical engineering. He was namea Presidential Young Investigator by the National Science Foundation in 1984and became dean of the College of Engineering in 1987. He was named a Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering in 1995. In 1998, university President Bernie Machen named Pershing as senior vice president for Academic Affairs. In March 2012, Pershing was named president of the University of Utah, where he also holds an appointment as a distinguished professor of chemical engineering. The University of Utah (U of U, UofU, or simply The U) is a public research university in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is the flagship institution of the Utah System of Higher Education. Bernie Machen
James Bernard Machen (; born March 26, 1944) is an American university professor and administrator. Machen is a native of Mississippi, and earned several academic degrees before becoming a university administrator and president. Machen had been the president of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah and the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He also sits on the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute's Board of Trustees. On June 8, 2012, Machen announced he would be stepping down as president in 2013. However, Machen was asked by state and university leaders to stay on, as the school had not yet found a suitable replacement. He was finally succeeded by W. Kent Fuchs on January 1, 2015. Vivian S. Lee (born September 1966) is an American radiologist and health care executive. The president of Verily Health Platforms (Alphabet, Google). Lee is the author of the book, The Long Fix: Solving America's Health Care Crisis with Strategies That Work for Everyone (W.W. Norton, 2020).
