David Torrance (politician)
David Herd Torrance (born 13 March 1961) is a Scottish National Party (SNP) politician. He has been the Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the Kirkcaldy constituency since 2011. Background Born in Kirkcaldy, David Torrance was educated at Balwearie High School and Adam Smith College, where he gained an HND Mechanical Engineering. Torrance is a member of the Scout Association, and has been Scout Leader since 1979. He is also the Assistant District Commissioner for Kirkcaldy District Scouts. Career Torrance joined the Scottish National Party in 1981 and was a Fife local Councillor in Fife Council from 1995 until being elected as an MSP in 2011. Member Of The Scottish Parliament
Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP; gd, Ball Pàrlamaid na h-Alba, BPA; sco, Memmer o the Scots Pairliament, MSP) is the title given to any one of the 129 individuals elected to serve in the Scottish Parliament. Electoral system The additional member system produces a form of proportional representation, where each constituency has its own representative, and each region has seats given to political parties to reflect as closely as possible its level of support among voters. 2016 Scottish Parliament Election
The 2016 Scottish parliament election was held on Thursday, 5 May 2016 to elect 129 members to the Scottish Parliament. It was the fifth election held since the devolved parliament was established in 1999. It was the first parliamentary election in Scotland in which 16 and 17 year olds were eligible to vote, under the provisions of the Scottish Elections (Reduction of Voting Age) Act. It was also the first time the three largest parties were led by women. Parliament went into dissolution on 24 March 2016, allowing the official period of campaigning to get underway. Claire Josephine Baker (née Brennan; born 4 March 1971) is a Scottish Labour politician who has served as a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the Mid Scotland and Fife region since 2007. Early life and career Claire Baker was born on 4 March 1971 in Dunfermline to Margaret (''née'' Edgar) and James Brennan. She grew up in Kelty, and attended primary and secondary schools in Fife. 2021 Scottish Parliament Election
The 2021 Scottish Parliament election took place on 6 May 2021, under the provisions of the Scotland Act 1998. All 129 Members of the Scottish Parliament were elected in the sixth election since the parliament was re-established in 1999. Christopher Harvie
Professor Christopher Harvie (born 21 September 1944, Motherwell) is a Scottish historian and a Scottish National Party (SNP) politician. He was a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Mid Scotland and Fife from 2007 to 2011. Before his election, he was Professor of British and Irish Studies at the University of Tübingen, Germany. Life and career Harvie grew up in the Borders village of St Boswells and was educated in Kelso at Kelso High School and in Edinburgh at Royal High School. He studied at the University of Edinburgh, where he graduated in 1966 with a First Class Honours M.A. in History. He received his PhD from Edinburgh in 1972 for a thesis on university liberalism and democracy, 1860–1886.
