David Thorpe (footballer)
David Thorpe (born 30 May 1948) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Footscray and Richmond in the VFL. A centreman, Thorpe played with Footscray from 1965 to 1973. He won the Charles Sutton Medal for the club's best and fairest player in 1968 and 1972. Thorpe missed out on the award in 1969 despite polling well in the Brownlow Medal, finishing the count in 6th position. From that season, until 1972, he represented Victoria at interstate football. Dave Thorpe
Dave Thorpe (born 1954) is a British writer who is best known for his work on ''Captain Britain''. Biography David Thorpe's career began when he joined Marvel UK in 1980 as an assistant editor and art assistant. He soon started writing Captain Britain, helping to revamp the character with Paul Neary and Alan Davis in '' Marvel Superheroes'' issue #377. He created many of the characters later used by Alan Moore and wrote the character till issue #386 (Moore took over the writing duties from issue #387). Thorpe and Davis (both doing some of their earliest professional comics work) created Mad Jim Jaspers and wrote the story that would lead into the Jaspers' Warp storyline. The political commentaries in Thorpe's stories ignited conflicts with his editors, leading to his being taken off the series; Davis later commented, "Dave's departure was the result of months of petty politics and very unpleasant." David Thorpe (motorcyclist)
David Thorpe (born 1962) is a British former amateur and professional motocross racer and racing team manager. He won the AMCA 250 title in 1978 at the age of 16 along with the superclass title the same year competing against the best of the 500cc amateur riders. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 1983 to 1993. Thorpe is notable for being a three-time FIM 500cc motocross world champion. __TOC__ Motocross career Thorpe's early career saw him excel in both motocross and football, and at one stage he was even offered a contract with professional side Queen's Park Rangers, before opting to concentrate on motocross. He was Curator of Contemporary Projects at the Henry Moore Foundation and was also director of the South London Gallery, The Showroom and Chisenhale. He has been Associate Director for Artes Mundi, the biannual contemporary art exhibition and prize at the National Museum of Wales, and following the death of Michael Stanley in late September 2012 was appointed Interim Director at Modern Art Oxford.
