David Stuart (Virginia Politician)
David Stuart (August 3, 1753 – October 1814) was a Virginia physician, politician, and correspondent of George Washington. When Washington became President of the United States, he made Stuart one of three commissioners appointed to design a new United States capital city. Early life and education David Stuart was the eldest of four sons borne by Sarah Foote, heiress of the "Cedar Grove" plantation on the Potomac River, and who in 1750 married Rev. William David Stuart (1723-1796), rector of St. Paul's Parish, King George County, Virginia. Rev. Stuart had studied theology in London and was ordained there by Bishop Edmonds. He became known for his eloquence and with his brother in law Horatio Dade served on the King George County Committee of Safety during the American Revolutionary War. David Stuart (brigadier General)
David Stuart (March 12, 1816 – September 12, 1868) was a politician from the U.S. state of Michigan and an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Early life and education Stuart was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Robert Stuart, discoverer of the South Pass in Wyoming. He attended Phillips Academy, Oberlin College, and Amherst College, graduating in 1838. He studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Detroit. Career He was elected as a Democrat to the 33rd Congress, serving from March 4, 1853, to March 3, 1855. He chaired the Committee on Expenditures in the Department of the Treasury. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1854 to the 34th Congress, and left for Chicago, to become lawyer for the Illinois Central Railroad. Sir David Ian Stuart (born 8 December 1953) is a Medical Research Council (United Kingdom), Medical Research Council Professor of Structural Biology at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics at the University of Oxford where he is also a Fellow of Hertford College, Oxford. He is best known for his contributions to the X-ray crystallography of viruses, in particular for determining the structures of foot-and-mouth disease virus, Bluetongue disease, bluetongue virus and the membrane-containing phages Tectivirus, PRD1 (the first structure of an enveloped virus) and Corticovirus, PM2. David S. Stuart (born 1965) is an archaeologist and epigrapher specializing in the study of ancient Mesoamerica, the area now called Mexico and Central America. His work has studied all aspects of the ancient Maya civilization. He is widely recognized for his breakthroughs in deciphering Maya hieroglyphs and interpreting Maya art and iconography, starting at an early age. He is the youngest person ever to receive a MacArthur Fellowship, at age 18. David Stuart (1765-1853) was a fur trader who worked primarily for the North West and Pacific Fur companies throughout his varied career. Fort Astoria In the official Fort Astoria logbook maintained by station manager Duncan McDougall, Stuart was recorded in May 1811 as suffering overexertion and potentially a hernia from clearing timber. In the same month, the Chinookans reported sighting a merchant vessel near their settlements on the coast. Rather than lose the beaver skins to rival Maritime fur traders, McDougall sent Stuart on 22 May to Comcomly's village across the Columbia River. The reported vessel never actually appeared after its existence was announced by Chinookan traders. This episode has been suggested by historian Robert F.
