David Starkey (maritime Historian)
David John Starkey (born 20 September 1954) is a specialist in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British maritime history. His research focuses on shipping, seafaring, privateering, fisheries and marine environmental history. Life Starkey earned a degree in Economic History from the University of Leeds, and an MA in the History of the Atlantic Economy from the University of Exeter. He has been based since 1994 at the University of Hull, where he was founding director of the Maritime Historical Studies Centre. He was head of the Department of History from 2011 and 2016, and subsequently Academic Manager for the Faculty of Arts, Cultures and Education. David Starkey
David Robert Starkey (born 3 January 1945) is an English historian and radio and television presenter, with views that he describes as conservative. The only child of Quaker parents, he attended Kendal Grammar School before studying at Cambridge through a scholarship. There he specialised in Tudor history, writing a thesis on King Henry VIII's household. From Cambridge, he moved to the London School of Economics, where he was a lecturer in history until 1998. He has written several books on the Tudors. Starkey first appeared on television in 1977. While a regular contributor to the BBC Radio 4 debate programme ''The Moral Maze'', his acerbic tongue earned him the sobriquet of "rudest man in Britain"; his frequent appearances on ''Question Time'' have been received with criticism and applause. The ''International Journal of Maritime History'' is a peer-reviewed academic journal that covers all aspects of maritime history. The European Science Foundation's European Reference Index for the Humanities (ERIH) ranks it as a "Class One" journal. The journal is abstracted and indexed in Scopus and Historical Abstracts. Ingo Heidbrink (born 1968) is a German maritime historian who is Professor of History with a specialization on Maritime History at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. He is specialized on Fisheries History, Traditional Watercraft and Museum Ships, Methodology of Maritime History and interdisciplinary research projects. Since Summer 2021 he is Chair of the Department of History at Old Dominion University. Academic education and professional positions Heidbrink studied Social and Economic History at the University of Hamburg (Germany), where he got his M.A. in 1994 and his Dr.phil. in 1999.
