David Shiner (politician)
David Shiner was a city councillor in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He represented ward 24, one of the two wards in Willowdale. Background He is the son of the late Esther Shiner, who served on the borough and later city council of the City of North York as alderman, and later as a member of the Board of Control and Deputy Mayor. Before entering politics, David Shiner ran a clothing company. In 1994, he opposed a plan by Metro's Separate School Board to consolidate storage of 18,000 gallons of PCBs in North York. David Zimmer (born April 7, 1944) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He was the Liberal member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario for Willowdale from 2003 to 2018. He was a member of cabinet in the government of Kathleen Wynne. He was the longest serving minister of aboriginal/indigenous affairs in Ontario history to date. In May 2013, the American website Gawker and the ''Toronto Star'' reported that they had viewed a cellphone video that showed then- Mayor of Toronto Rob Ford smoking crack cocaine and commenting on political issues. Gawker raised money to buy the video, but were unable to acquire it when the seller broke off contact. On October 31, 2013, the Toronto Police Service announced that they were in possession of the video, "and at least one other". The video was retrieved in the course of an investigation of drug gangs, entitled "Project Traveller". Ford's associate Alexander "Sandro" Lisi was charged with extortion for attempting to retrieve the video, in exchange for marijuana. An image was provided to Gawker and ''Toronto Star'' reporters depicting Ford posing with three individuals outside the house where the video was recorded.
