David Shaw (Australian Footballer)
David Shaw (born 29 October 1938, in Ballarat) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon Football Club, Essendon in the Australian Football League, VFL during the 1960s. University Blues recruit David Shaw was a versatile player and made his senior debut in 1959. He played in four Grand Finals with Essendon over the course of his career, winning in 1962 and 1965. Shaw remained actively involved with the Essendon Football Club after his playing days were over, serving on their committee and was club president from 1993 to 1996. Victorian Amateur Football Association
The Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) is the largest senior community Australian rules football competition in Victoria. It consists of seven senior men's and women's divisions ranging from Premier to Division 4. In addition there are U19's sections and five Thirds sections, primarily made up of either clubs only able to field one team, or clubs from higher sections that can field a third team after their seniors and reserves. The league operates a double promotion and relegation system between sections with various rules dictating which section clubs can play in. The Essendon Football Club, nicknamed the Bombers, is a professional Australian rules football club. The club plays in the Australian Football League (AFL), the game's premier competition. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind").
