David Sant
David Sant (born 1968) is a Spanish mime artist, acrobat, puppeteer, stuntman, director, actor and writer. Early life and career Sant was born in Spain in 1968. He discovered the theatre at the age of seventeen thanks to his literature teacher. He moved to the UK in the early nineties where he began performing as a mime artist, acrobat, puppeteer, stuntman and directed for many physical theatre companies winning several awards at different international festivals. In 2006, he was approached by the BBC to bring his comedy skills to television and has been directing sitcoms and comedy dramas ever since. Sant is best known for the role of Cartoon Head from series two of the British television show ''Ideal'' and is also known for playing the title role and the other male characters in the season 5–6 revival of ''Pingu'', replacing Carlo Bonomi. Mime Artist
A mime artist, or simply mime (from Greek , , "imitator, actor"), is a person who uses ''mime'' (also called ''pantomime'' outside of Britain), the acting out of a story through body motions without the use of speech, as a theatrical medium or as a performance art. In earlier times, in English, such a performer would typically be referred to as a mummer. Miming is distinguished from silent comedy, in which the artist is a character in a film or skit without sound. Jacques Copeau, strongly influenced by Commedia dell'arte and Japanese Noh theatre, used masks in the training of his actors. His pupil Étienne Decroux was highly influenced by this, started exploring and developing the possibilities of mime, and developed corporeal mime into a highly sculptural form, taking it outside the realms of naturalism. Puppeteer
A puppeteer is a person who manipulates an inanimate object, called a puppet, to create the illusion that the puppet is alive. The puppet is often shaped like a human, animal, or legendary creature. The puppeteer may be visible to or hidden from the audience. A puppeteer can operate a puppet indirectly by the use of strings, rods, wires, electronics or directly by his or her own hands placed inside the puppet or holding it externally or any other part of the body- such as the legs. Some puppet styles require two or more puppeteers to work together to create a single puppet character. ''Ideal'' is a British dark comedy television series originally broadcast on TV channel BBC Three, created by Graham Duff and produced by BBC Comedy North and Baby Cow Productions. It stars Johnny Vegas as small-time cannabis dealer Moz. ''Ideal'' is set in Salford, Greater Manchester, chosen because Duff was familiar with the area, having done many stand-up gigs there during his youth. Most of the series takes place in Moz's flat and revolves around the eclectic array of characters who visit Moz to buy cannabis, socialise or both. ''Pingu'' is a stop-motion children's television series co-created by Otmar Gutmann and Erika Brueggemann. It was originally produced from 1990 to 2000 by Swiss company The Pygos Group (originally called Trickfilmstudio) for SF DRS in Switzerland. It was later revived from 2003 to 2006 for CBeebies by British companies HIT Entertainment and Hot Animation. The series focuses on a family of anthropomorphic emperor penguins who live in the South Pole; the main character is the family's son and title character, Pingu. The series originally ran for four series from 7 March 1990 to 9 April 2000 on SF DRS. It was then renewed for two more series from 1 August 2003 to 3 March 2006 on CBeebies. Carlo Bonomi
Carlo Bonomi (12 March 1937 – 6 August 2022) was an Italian voice actor and clown who was best known for his voiceover work as the voice of Mr. Linea in the animated series '' La Linea'' as well as Pingu and various other characters in series 1-4 of the stop-motion children's television series of the same name. Career Bonomi voiced many characters for the Italian advertising show ''Carosello''. The language of noises he had developed and used for the earlier Osvaldo Cavandoli's '' La Linea'' from 1971 to 1986 was reinterpreted for the acclaimed TV series ''Pingu'' on SF DRS during its first four seasons produced between 1990 and 2000, where Bonomi voiced all the characters without a script. ''Jonathan Creek'' is a long-running British mystery crime drama series produced by the BBC and written by David Renwick.
