David S. Smith
David Shiverick Smith (January 25, 1918 – April 13, 2012) was the United States ambassador to Sweden from 1976–1977. Smith was born in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Anna (née Shiverick) and Floyd Monroe Smith. He was appointed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower as a trustee of the National Cultural Center. Smith was a board member of the Council of American Ambassadors. He graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth College (where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa), the Sorbonne, and Columbia University Law School. His niece was actress Anne Ramsey Angelina Anne Ramsey-Mobley (March 27, 1929 – August 11, 1988) was an American actress. The United States Ambassador to Sweden ( sv, Förenta Staternas ambassadör i Sverige) serves as the official diplomatic representative of the President and the Government of the United States of America to the King and the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden. Diplomatic relations between Sweden and the United States began with the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce in 1783. Sweden received its first U.S. resident minister in 1814, but in 1818, the senior U.S. diplomat again became the chargé d'affaires. In 1854, the senior American diplomat in Sweden again became the minister resident. From 1814 to 1905 the United States Chief of Mission in Sweden also represented United States interests with respect to Norway, as Norway was aligned with Sweden during this period in the Union between Sweden and Norway. Angelina Anne Ramsey-Mobley (March 27, 1929 – August 11, 1988) was an American actress. She is best known for her film roles as Mama Fratelli in ''The Goonies'' (1985) and as Mrs. Lift in ''Throw Momma from the Train'' (1987), the latter of which earned her nominations for an Academy Awards, Academy Award and a Golden Globe Awards, Golden Globe Award. Rodney O'Gliasain Kennedy-Minott
Rodney O'Gliasain Kennedy-Minott (sometimes spelled Rodney Glisan Kennedy-Minott; June 1, 1928 – December 15, 2004) was an American diplomat, Democratic Party activist and professor. Early life Rodney Glisan Minott was born to Joseph Albert Minott and wife Gainor Owen Baird, in Portland, Oregon, on June 1, 1928. His great-grandfather was Dr. Rodney Glisan. He served as a United States Army sergeant in Japan from 1946 until 52. He then studied at Stanford University, receiving his bachelor's in 1953, master's in 1956, and doctorate in 1960. Academic career From 1960 until 1965, Kennedy-Minott was assistant director of the Western civilization history program at Stanford University, before becoming associate professor at Portland State University. Robert Strausz-Hupé
Robert Strausz-Hupé (March 25, 1903 – February 24, 2002) was an Austrian-born American diplomat and geopolitical theorist. Life and career Born in 1903 in Austria, Strausz-Hupé immigrated to the United States in 1923. Serving as an advisor on foreign investment to American financial institutions, he watched the Depression spread political misery across the America and Europe. After the Anschluss of Austria in 1938, Strausz-Hupé began writing and lecturing to American audiences on "the coming war." After one such lecture in Philadelphia, he was invited to give a talk at the University of Pennsylvania, an event which led to his taking a position on the faculty there in 1940. He became an Associate Professor in 1946. Strausz-Hupé founded the Foreign Policy Research Institute at the University of Pennsylvania in 1955, which later became independent in 1970.
