David R. Russell
David R. Russell (23 September 1935 – 21 March 2018) was a builder who for many years collected antique tool, antique woodworking tools. Career and collecting David Richard Russell was born at Burneside near Kendal in Westmorland (now part of Cumbria), England, the younger son of Albert, a worker in a Cumbrian gunpowder-keg factory, and Alice Russell (''née'' Mason). He left school early to work alongside his brother as an apprentice to a cabinet-maker and joiner in Kendal. One of his first jobs as a young apprentice was working on site with his brother at Sizergh Castle and Garden, Sizergh Castle, near Kendal. "His first love was the foreman's T. Norris & Son, Norris jointing-plane, which he was not allowed to touch however much his fingers tingled," wrote Huon Mallalieu in ''The Times''. James Austin (photographer)
James Austin (born 4 June 1940) is an Australian Fine-art photography, fine-art and architectural photographer. Biography James Lucien Ashurst Austin was born in Melbourne, Australia, the eldest son of Lloyd James Austin (1915–1994) and of Jeanne-Françoise (''née'' Guérin). He is the older brother of the late Colin François Lloyd Austin, Colin Austin (1941–2010), the scholar of ancient Greek. After studying architecture and fine art at Jesus College, Cambridge, he continued his education at the Courtauld Institute, London. He then travelled widely in France and Italy as a freelance photographer building up a library of photographs now in use worldwide in art history archives and numerous publications. Its name refers to the historic county of Westmorland. Stewart Spiers
Stewart Spiers was a small but innovative firm of plane-makers in Scotland, founded first of all in Ayr in Ayrshire and continuing under the registered name of Stewart Speirs Ltd 'sic''in Paisley, Renfrewshire, from c. 1933 until its demise in the mid to late 1930s. Like the Glasgow firm of Alexander Mathieson & Sons, Spiers benefited hugely from the thriving industries on the Firth of Clyde in the latter half of the nineteenth century. Early years Stewart followed his father William Spiers into the cabinet-making trade in Ayr, and when his father died in 1844 he apparently took over the workshop in River Street. He was later to claim 1840 as the year his plane-making firm began. How Stewart came to be a plane-maker was, according to the ''Ayrshire Post'', purely by accident, however.
