David Pugh (1789–1861)
David Pugh (14 August 1789 – 20 April 1861) was a wealthy tea trader, a Welsh landowner and Conservative Party politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1832, and again between 1847 and 1861. Career Pugh was a Captain in the Montgomeryshire Yeomanry from 10 December 1819 to 1828, when the regiment was disbanded. When it was reformed in 1831, he was appointed Major; he resigned in 1844. He was Recorder of Welshpool. He was High Sheriff of Montgomeryshire in 1823, and Deputy Lieutenant of Montgomeryshire. He was elected M.P. for the Montgomery Boroughs in 1832, but unseated on petition the next year. In 1847 he was elected, and there being a double return, his opponent's ( Hon. Hugh Cholmondeley who had been the sitting member since 1841) return was annulled, 14 February 1848. In 1852, 1857, and 1859 Mr. Pugh was again successively returned. David Pugh (1806 – 12 July 1890) was a Welsh landowner and Liberal Party politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1857 until 1868 and again from 1885 until his death in 1890. Early life and career Pugh was born at Green Hill, Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire (which was later renamed Manoravon), the eldest son of Colonel David Heron Pugh, who was High Sheriff of Carmarthenshire in 1819, and his wife Elizabeth Beynon, daughter of William Beynon of Trewern, Llanddewi Velfrey, Pembrokeshire. His brother, John William Pugh, was Vicar of Llandeilo for fifteen years. Pugh was educated at Rugby School and Balliol College, Oxford, graduating in 1828. In 1837 he was called to the Bar at Inner Temple and for some years he practiced on the Northern Circuit. David Pugh (born 1980 in Newport) is a former Conservative councillor and served as leader of the Isle of Wight Council between September 2007 and May 2013, making him the longest serving leader of the local authority since its inception in 1995. He was first elected to the Isle of Wight Council at the local elections in May 2005 as a member for the Shanklin Central Ward, re-elected in the June 2009 elections to the Shanklin South Ward, losing his seat in the 2013 local elections after 2 other candidates withdrew, making the election a straight choice between Pugh and Independent, Richard Priest. David Henry "Harry" Pugh (8 March 1875 – 1945) was a Welsh footballer who played in the English Football League for Lincoln City and Stoke. He was also capped seven times to the Wales national team between 1896 and 1901, and scored two goals for the team. Career Pugh was born in Wrexham and played for local clubs Wrexham Grosvenor and Wrexham. He joined Stoke in 1897 and played 20 matches for the club scoring once. He left for Lincoln City in March 1898 and he became a regular for the "Imps" in the Second Division playing 97 matches for the club scoring 12 goals in four years. David Pugh (born 19 September 1964) is an English former professional footballer who mainly played as a winger for Chester City and Bury during the 1990s. Playing career Pugh made his name with Runcorn, who he joined when he was 22 from Liverpool-based amateur side Zodiac FC in 1987. Pugh made more than 50 Football Conference appearances over the next two years and was involved in FA Cup scalps over Chester City and Wrexham. In July 1989, Pugh was given his big break when Chester signed him for £35,000. Pugh made his Football League debut on the opening day of the 1989–90 season against Mansfield Town, with his first goal coming against Birmingham City two months later. David Pugh is a British comics artist best known for his work on '' Sláine'' at '' 2000 AD''. Early life and career Pugh attended Art College at Brighton and Kingston upon Thames. On leaving, he joined the American company Pier 1 Imports, as a company artist and photographer, he worked with the London-based advertising agency Brockie, Haslam and Allen. After two years he returned to Wales, to work for the Thomson Organization as a visualizer in various advertising and promotional departments. David Vaughan Pugh (27 November 1907 – 21 June 2005) was a Progressive Conservative party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Okotoks, Alberta and had a career as a solicitor, barrister, and insurance agent. Pugh was educated at Trinity College School, Brentwood College and the University of British Columbia, from which he graduated in 1934. He then obtained his law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and was a member of The Kappa Alpha Society. He was first elected at the Okanagan Boundary riding in the 1958 general election after an unsuccessful bid for the seat in 1957. Pugh was re-elected there in 1962, 1963 and 1965.
