David Provan (footballer, Born 1956)
David Alexander Provan (born 8 May 1956) is a Scottish former association football, footballer, who played for Kilmarnock F.C., Kilmarnock, Celtic F.C., Celtic and Scotland national football team, Scotland. While playing for Celtic, Provan won four Scottish Football League Premier Division, Premier Division medals, two Scottish Cups and one Scottish League Cup, League Cup. He earned ten international caps and scored one goal for Scotland national football team, Scotland, and was a non-playing member of their 1982 FIFA World Cup, 1982 World Cup squad. Provan also represented the Scottish League XI, Scottish League. Provan retired in 1987 after he began to suffer from myalgic encephalomyelitis, ME. He has since worked in the media. Gourock
Gourock ( ; gd, Guireag ) is a town in the Inverclyde council area and formerly a burgh of the County of Renfrew in the west of Scotland. It was a seaside resort on the East shore of the upper Firth of Clyde. Its main function today is as a residential area, extending contiguously from Greenock, with a railway terminus and ferry services across the Clyde. History The name Gourock comes from a Gaelic word for "pimple", in reference to the hill above the town. As far back as 1494 it is recorded that James IV sailed from the shore at Gourock to quell the rebellious Highland clans. Czechoslovakia National Under-21 Football Team
The Czechoslovakia national under-21 football team was the national football team for the under-21s of Czechoslovakia, before the country split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia (''For information about the national teams of the two countries, see the articles Czech Republic national under-21 football team and Slovakia national under-21 football team.'') Following the realignment of UEFA's youth competitions in 1976, Czechoslovakia's Under-21 team was formed. Ibrox Stadium
Ibrox Stadium is a football stadium on the south side of the River Clyde in the Ibrox area of Glasgow, Scotland. The home of Rangers Football Club, Ibrox is the third largest football stadium in Scotland, with an all-seated capacity of . Opened as Ibrox Park in 1899, it suffered a disaster in 1902 when a wooden terrace collapsed. Vast earthen terraces were built in its place, and a main stand, now a listed building, in 1928. A British record crowd of 118,567 gathered in January 1939 for a league match with Celtic. After the Ibrox disaster of 1971, the stadium was largely rebuilt. The Old Firm is the collective name for the Scottish football clubs Celtic and Rangers, which are both based in Glasgow. Archie MacPherson
Archibald "Archie" Macpherson (born 1937) is a Scottish football commentator and author. He has been commentating on Scottish football, via both radio and television, for over four decades. Early life Macpherson was born and raised in the Shettleston area of Glasgow. His father had played as a centre forward for Shettleston, Dalry Thistle and Largs Thistle. Broadcasting career Macpherson has worked for the BBC, STV, Eurosport, Setanta Sports, Radio Clyde and Talksport although he initially struggled to gain a foothold in broadcasting. Indeed, his first job was as a teacher where he supplemented his income by getting short stories published in local newspapers. Such efforts paid off and helped Archie gain his initial big break at the BBC. SPFA Players' Player Of The Year
The PFA Scotland Players' Player of the Year (often called the Players' Player of the Year, or simply the Scottish Player of the Year) is an annual award given to the player who is adjudged to have been the best of the season in Scottish football. The award has been presented since the 1977–78 season and the winner is chosen by a vote amongst the members of the players' trade union, the Professional Footballers' Association Scotland (PFA Scotland).
