David P. Cooley
David Paul Cooley (February 15, 1960 – March 25, 2009) was a Lockheed test pilot and retired United States Air Force (USAF) officer, responsible for developmental flight testing of the F-117 Nighthawk. He was killed while flying a test mission in an F-22 Raptor jet fighter over the high desert of Southern California. Biography Early years The son of a USAF airman, David Cooley was born February 15, 1960 at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk, England. He grew up in Fairview Heights, Illinois and graduated from Belleville East High School. Cooley was an exceptional soccer player and captain of his high school team. His enjoyment of soccer continued throughout his life, and he was a dedicated bicyclist. RAF Mildenhall
Royal Air Force Mildenhall or RAF Mildenhall is a Royal Air Force (RAF) station located near Mildenhall in Suffolk, England. Despite its status as a Royal Air Force station, it primarily supports United States Air Force (USAF) operations, and is currently the home of the 100th Air Refueling Wing (100 ARW). During the Second World War, RAF Bomber Command used the station for operational combat missions until 1945. 410th Flight Test Squadron
The 410th Test and Evaluation Squadron is an active United States Air Force squadron, stationed at Beale Air Force Base, California and assigned to the 753rd Test and Evaluation Group. The squadron was activated in 1989 as the 6510th Test Squadron, becoming the 410th Test Squadron in 1992 and the 410th Flight Test Squadron in 1994. The squadron's initial mission was flight and acceptance testing of the Rockwell B-1B Lancer bomber. In 1991, B-1 testing transferred to the 6519th Flight Test Squadron and the squadron became a paper unit. Empire Test Pilots' School
The Empire Test Pilots' School (ETPS) is a British training school for test pilots and flight test engineers of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft at MoD Boscombe Down in Wiltshire, England. It was established in 1943, the first of its type. The school moved to RAF Cranfield in October 1945, then to the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough in July 1947, before returning to Boscombe Down on 29 January 1968. The General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark is a retired supersonic, medium-range, multirole combat aircraft.
